Maybe the breakout start we have hopefully been looking for. He was really good today. Now, can he string it together? Michael Gettys quietly hitting .289 in May. Is he starting to flip the switch a little bit, maybe?

He's gonna have to do a whole lot more than hit .289 for a month. Dude still strikes out a ton without any of the in game power that makes the strike outs worth it.

He already has a couple home runs this month, so maybe he's starting to tap into that power. Just have to wait and see if it maintains.

He seems to be on pace for his highest HR total of his career.

 

 

Does Gettys have to be protected in the Rule V this year? He could be an attractive 5th OF to stash on a rebuilding team like DET. Top shelf D, big speed and a, small but real, chance to develop into a good ML player. He doesn't have to be a great hitter to have value with his tools.

Yes, he would be Rule 5 eligible. (Also, note it's not a Roman numeral...)
