Forgot about Strahm!

I do think he could help if he could ever get healthy.  It's his knee, right? Same one as before?

This time it is the right knee .... 2017-18 was the left knee. So this time it is the push off knee.

Don’t even know if he has resumed any baseball activities ... and after the injury and only pitching 20 innings last year might take him a long time to get ML ready. 2nd half of the season?

Lake Elsinore Storm site at bottom said they're posting 2021 roster 10 AM PST Monday

Ft Wayne has announce their 29 man roster (High A this year). For the record I was way way off on the players ... especially pitchers. I guess that is the issue with basing anything on 2019 stats and no insight on minor league camp.

Only 3 top 30 prospects on the roster:

Espinosa (12), Ornelas (19), and Feole (29).

Looking like a tuff season in Ft. Wayne ... baring some surprise development from the lesser know prospects.

I guess this implies Abrams goes to AA? SA should be loaded.

No HUGE surprises...  the expanded roster & especially the season long schedule of 6 game series with travel on Monday REALLY makes sense.  They usually go with 6 SP at lower levels, gives everyone 6 off days between starts always same day of week & same "place" in each series.

Based on usage in 2019, 1st guess at the SP in '21:  Mosser, Keating, Elliot, Minjarez, Bencomo, E. Martinez ??

MAYBE Mason Feole &/0r Espinoza as openers, but "planned use" as RP's seems more likely for both to begin season.

Look like Osvaldo Hernandez & Esteury Ruiz up to AA.

Saw a note that Espinosa will start and go only 3 innings for at least May. Guessing they want him on a more controlled warm-up routine than a relief warm-up sequence coming off his injuries.

Would not surprise me the same goes for Feole for the same reason.

Not sure how they will deal with pitcher usage. With the structured 6 games a week schedule and a 15 man pitching staff ... figured the one start a week route for 6 starters (going 4-5 innings) and the 9 RP mixed and matched over the 6 days. However, if Espinosa and Feole are 3 inning "openers" ... have to think they work more than once a week for 3 innings.

Also, Suwinski looks to be heading to AA after marginal stats in High A in 2019. Guessing that is also the distinction for Podorsky (lest we forgot him). Not a lot of OF options remaining that seem to fit right for AA.

Cordoba seems like the only clear fit. I guess someone could be pushed down from AAA. Ona (if healthy) is possible.

I am confused on the "alternate site" once the minor league season starts ... more so after I heard some comments by Grant on the TV broadcast.

Up until now the Padres' "alternate site" was in Peoria and those players were kept apart from the rest of the minor leaguers in camp BUT they did play games against other AZ "alternate site" teams.

Grant said that the Padres "alternate site" will now move to El Paso. IF SO, and keeping those "alternate site" players away from the El Paso roster is what it intended ... not sure how that works for those players getting game work. Unless the El Paso roster is composed of the "alternate site roster" (maybe same for all AAA teams). Then the implication is that only El Paso roster players become eligible for call-up? Does any player at a lower level have to go through protocols to get on the El Paso roster before being eligible to get a ML call-up?

Not clear but if El Paso is the alternate site for call-up ... might that impact who goes to AAA and who goes to AA? Gore - Marcano - Campusano - even Abrams -- may be AAA bound?

The initial rosters for the four full season teams are now posted.

Note that we can't tell how they are impacted by any injuries ... so some omissions may be due to that.

Since I like him, sorry not to see Alan Cordoba on any roster.

Note that Gore is in AAA and Abrams in AA. Also (may be linked to my previous post question the alternate site) all 40 man roster players except for Espinosa are either in El Paso or not listed (expect IL types). That will allow maximum flexibility of call-up without roster manipulation. Ona, Humphreys, and Lawson are omitted ... Ramirez is also missing but maybe just "in transition" with his recent option from the Padres.

Ona is on the MLB IL.  Lawson was optioned, 95% sure will be on AA IL (could be AAA).

Ramirez might be in limbo to AAA, but Humphreys missing is weird.  He never appeared in ST after we claimed him off Waivers, so maybe Injured?

I think you might be right that maybe guys can only be recalled/selected from AAA once Minors seasons start tomorrow (i.e. El Paso "is" the 'Alternate Site'?).  I had expected Gore, Mason Thompson, Campusano, & Marcano to all be at AA, but that would explain why they're not.

I've got about 10-11 guys who appeared in full season ball in 2019 not on a roster.  Besides Cordoba, the most notable are:  OF Grant Little a 2nd round Comp balance pick a few years ago; and P's in ST:  LH Brady Feigl & RHP Jacob Rhame (never appeared)

For now will assume they are injured and remained in AZ for rehab.

Little was playing in AUSTRALIA over the winter ... I think under the direction of the Padres ... so likely not retired or cut at this point.

Also, did not see Lake Bachar listed (#28 prospect) ... again injury?

I guess they chose to work with Lange and Haynes in AZ ... some thought they would get pushed to LE. On the other hand a couple of pitchers that were in the DSL made the jump to low A. (Lugo / Matos I think).

Did see that all four affiliates are carrying 3 catchers each ... maybe to cut down player movement if injuries during COVID.  On the flip side ... only Zunica is a 1B by trade. I guess we will see catchers / other position players filling the 1B role up and down the system.

3 games tomorrow.
