Mike Clevinger
Quote from Ben Davey on September 25, 2020, 12:06 amAn elbow strain is typically 2-4 weeks. The Padres released a thing saying that they are optimistic that by taking him out when they did they are keeping it closer to the 2 weeks side.
They did announce he is officially out for the wild card round, but optimistic that he would be available for the NLDS and even more optimistic for the NLCS

Quote from MrPadre19 on October 15, 2020, 1:10 pmSo good news on the Starting pitching front...that neither Lamet nor Clevinger need surgery.
While many are still skeptical I felt alot better when i saw it was Dr. Andrews who made the decision that surgery was not necessary.
NO ONE knows more about pitching elbows than James Andrews and I would think that if he thought either needed to be cut on it would have already happened.

Quote from fenn68 on November 24, 2021, 4:22 amMaybe all wishful thinking and fan hope but really a rooting for Clevinger to come back full steam.
1. First of all he is flat out top of the rotation when healthy …. 3.19 career ERA with only his rookie season not in that 3.00 ERA range.
2. In his interview on the Padres website … he clearly has a great relationship with the new pitching coach who he attributed much of his development …
3. He says he is throwing already at 80+ percent and the team sees him at full strength by ST.
Then I layer in his personality …. Volunteering over the winter for a number of community events …. Bought a home in SD … basically a good guy who represents the Padres in the community in a positive way. He and Musgrove … beyond the on field stuff … are what the Padres want to represent the Padres.
My bias but I always prefer star players to make SD their winter homes and make a total commitment to the Padres / SD.
Both Musgrove and Clevinger are FA after next season … if performing … Padres should be extending both.

Quote from Notmyopic on November 26, 2021, 10:20 amIt’s honestly hard for me to blame Padre players for not making their homes in SD anymore. It’s just to expensive to live in CA for anybody these days.

Agree that money (and CA taxes) are a factor but probably more so are family … roots … lifestyle (e.g. hunting / fishing). Then add in the uncertainty of being traded or released at any time (unless a on long term no-trade deal).
So I don’t have an issue with players that don’t move to SD … but I do give extra points to players who do and make a full commitment to the community and organization all year around.

Quote from Notmyopic on November 26, 2021, 3:31 pmFair enough, I love SD, I had my honeymoon there and lived there for awhile. But I moved for a cheaper place to live and a place that is much better for hunting and fishing. Pretty much what you mentioned for players, so I totally get them not wanting to live there year round but I do agree it’s nice to see players get locked in line that.

Bad news is ... I thought he was planned to go 4 IPs?

Quote from Randy Manese on April 20, 2022, 10:06 amA windblown ball that was just between infielders on the fringe of the outfield grass fell in for a double and caused Clevinger to have to throw several more pitches in the first inning. That situation, plus the fact that the home plate umpire missed several pitches that had late movement and were right over the heart of the plate made his 3 inning stint the equivalent of 4. Playing conditions were bad, very windy, but it seemed Clevinger had no issue with his right knee. Got up to 94-95 mph with his fastball. It seems he is ready to join the team, probably on the road trip, so he can face Cincinnati or Pittsburgh before the 1 May roster reduction.
