Mike Clevinger

Just read that he's headed for an MRI after dealing with bicep tightness similar to what he'd felt last week. Not good, but also not the worst. Hopefully the MRI comes back clean and he can rest an additional 7-8 days.

Yeah, HOPING he/coaches were just playing it ultra cautious in a non critical situation.... but does change outlook on the 1st series roster at a minimum.

I felt like Paddack had to be on the 3 game roster anyway even if not scheduled to start.  Now seems certain "just in case".

Being diagnosed as a "sprained elbow" ... getting more opinions.

A sprained elbow could take 3-4 weeks to heal ... basically with rest (often arm in sling).

That could eliminate him for the playoffs ... clearly not going to be in Round 1 or 2 ... probably more.

How did it go from his bicep to his elbow?

Elbow issues almost "always" turn into TJ!

UGH!

Don't like the sound of this.  Could lose him for all next year if TJ.    Can we get at least Arias and Cantillo back from Cleveland for sending us a pitcher with a bum arm?

Probably Hedges and Naylor given how they performed for Cleveland.

I am quite sure that the Padres' doctors cleared him and he was injured in San Diego. Hence, no compensation. If he's gone all next year all we will get out of the deal is a draft choice when if he signs with another team. Uh!

For the pessimists ... TJ and out all 2021 then players’ strike in 2022 eliminates 1/2 season ... THEN Clevinger is a FA after the CBA which will eliminate the QO and the Comp Pick for losing him.

For the optimists ... 3 week recovery for the sprain and he is pitching for the Padres in the World Series.

You make the call!

My comment was just tongue in cheek on the Rea-L Castillo episode a couple of years ago.  Don't expect any compensation.  It just shows how fragile pitchers' arms are and why, in the past, they really weren't signed to long-term contracts and why you need so many of them in your system.

Yeah I’m pretty sure the Marlins staff cleared Rea before that trade too.
