MacKenzie Gore

Are control issues more a matter of mental or physical?

And is one easier to overcome than the other, especially in a young picture?

It could be a variety of issues. Could be overly excited to be back on a mound and facing real competition, it could be competitive rust, it could be slightly out of sync, could be the ML baseball compared to the MiL baseball? Only Gore knows really.

Control problems? Still?

I know he's young but is it time to worry?

No.

This link suggests that Gore will start for AAA El Paso @ Tacoma tomorrow night (Friday, 5/7/21) ...

And his problems from the alternate site last year, and big league camp this year, continue.

LHP MacKenzie Gore (0-1, 6.75 ERA) struck out three but allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in four innings in his first start since 2019 and his Triple-A debut. Gore, considered the top pitching prospect in the game, threw 52 of his 94 pitches for strikes.

Granted it's only his first start but this is an ongoing issue. Without a MAJOR overhaul(mentally or physically) I can't imagine Mackenzie getting anywhere near San Diego this year.

Maybe it's time we turned our entire organizations thought process re: pitching on it's head? Way too many physical injuries and very limited solid production from what is supposed to be a top notch program? I'd be willing to consider voodoo and black magic at this point. Anyone else?

While Gore may be “struggling” some it’s not like he’s getting pounded.

Plus guys like Weathers and Morejon have pitched well and even better than expected.

The injuries aren’t anything I believe are an Organizational thing.

Especially when you consider Morejon got hurt even though he was babied for his whole developmental period.

chill pill.

He went 1st 4 IP scoreless.  I was surprised & encouraged they left him in so long (> 90 P) his 1st start of season, so he's fully stretched out.  First actual game in almost 2 years, probably a level higher than he should be developmentally...  I'm not worried about Gore.

If you want to hit the "panic button" a better name might be "Blake Snell"...

The curse of over hype by the media accelerating the expected arrival / development time (different for everyone). Almost every interview discussion the minor leagues starts with why isn't Gore up with the Padres.

The kid just turned 22 and did not pitch competitively in 2020. Give him a chance ... he has by all accounts four quality pitches and lacks command ... let the Padres' development folks make the call.

That's what I mean. These are professional athletes, competing at the highest level. Baby-ing shouldn't be a thing! These are men reaching, or are in, their physical prime.
