I'm not a pitching expert like some of the posters on this board, but it seemed his mechanics are a lot more simple from windup to delivery. Getting great location with all his pitches and his fastball seems faster from the 2019 days. The confidence he showed is back and you can tell that by the way he attacks the zone.
Nick Martinez goes today for the Padres but given the short spring training I'd piggy back him with Martinez in the regular season until both build up the innings. I believe this is what the Padres did early in 2020 and it was very successful. Don't want to send him down to El Paso where pitchers go to die and he's earned the right not to go down to San Antonio - just keep him healthy and I believe he'll make a contribution this year.
Think you are on target with Gore's development ... in his two ST starts he had the velocity, movement, and command of multiple pitches ... hard to ask for more. Some caution that this was against a lot of non-starters and in early ST but sure looked as though his stuff would play against the regulars. A couple of more starts against the regulars as they get into season shape will tell.
Given Melvin has said he will go with 5 SP ... having multiple long men in the pen (while the extra 2 pitchers are around in APR) makes sense. Given Gore's showing he should stay up.
My guess he stays as the #5 SP (Padres don't seem to want to experiment with him in relief) and Martinez or Paddack sit as the following long arm. Given Snell's history of short starts even when in game shape, the other of Martinez or Paddack would be set up to follow Snell.
Plus to cover the other SP ... Crismatt and Stammen have history of going multi innings. Everyone else seems short / mid-late inning options. Also, seems clear that Weathers in in the minors (probably AA).
Should be an interesting shake out of arms in APR with 2 having to be DFA/optioned/traded at the end of the month and another move for Pomeranz.

https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=14766Gore (4-1) earned the win against Milwaukee on Saturday, pitching six scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and three walks while striking out 10.
ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gore was dominant in the start, tying his career high with 10 strikeouts and inducing 14 swings-and-misses. The rookie threw 108 pitches -- his most as a big-leaguer -- and didn't allow any extra-base hits. After seeing his prospect stock drop last season, Gore has turned things around in his first opportunity in the majors, logging a 1.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 57:17 K:BB across 48 innings. The early Rookie of the Year favorite is expected to make his next start at home against Colorado next weekend.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on June 5, 2022, 10:01 pmThe Padres haven't had a Rookie of the Year winner in my lifetime. I'm hoping Gore keeps it up and puts an end to that.

Unfortunately the Padres will lose a year of control if he does.

Quote from 84padres on June 6, 2022, 5:39 amthe new rule states :
If a rookie finishes first or second in the Rookie of the Year voting, he'll be credited with a full year of service time.
This wont mean anything for Gore since he was up the whole year. Also we would get an extra draft pick if he finishes in top 3 ROY

Quote from dusty on June 6, 2022, 6:18 amAt this point with Gore's dominance and the new rules, unless he falls off a cliff, can't see him not finishing 1 or 2. And getting an extra draft pick is potentially Gold as well
