Actually in the MLs, he didnt, his overall line was .249 BA and .315 OBP, and he actually regressed in Sept/Oct. His line vs RHP in 2019 was .239 BA and .314 OBP. With a .292 BA and .320 OBP against LHP, so he actually hit LHP better than RHP, but with no power. All 8 of his HRs in the MLs were against RHP, but as you said, HRs werent our problem. So Naylor, with his well below average defense and not ready for ML bat, needs additional time in AAA.
Dickerson IMO, will get somewhere between $7 and 9M per season.

I’d be ok with some combination OF made up of Margot, Renfroe, Myers, Naylor, Cordero, Mazara. I agree. We aren't going to get another $300 million star hitter. We CAN get a close to $200 million ACE. That rotation should be all that we need. It would probably be a top 10 rotation, and we would still have Gore and Patino still coming. That leaves a lot of extra starters and lots of quality minor leaguers to trade for offense if needed.

Booster, Naylors numbers you cited for 2019: .249 BA was number 1 amongst Padres OF
.315 OBP was second only to Myers in Padres OF
Naylors numbers amongst lefties are an encouraging sign that he can hit out of either hand. I understand there will be arguments over Naylor because he’s basically a projection game and his defense was legitimately horrendous last year. I just think Naylor can be a .350 plus OBP guy with some pop. I’ve become very tired of watching the zero plate discipline, free swinging Padres. Watching a 22 year old go up to the dish with a plan, lay off the stuff out of zone, draw walks and go with the pitch was refreshing. Naylor impressed me with his maturity as a hitter and I believe in the guy. Those numbers will only get better.

I get your point, but I am tired of watching losing baseball. And I happen to think that Naylor is not a member of a winning SD baseball team next year. He could get there, but needs to learn things in AAA. I think we need better OFers, that can hit and play defense and Naylor is not there yet. So send Naylor to AAA, sign Dickerson, find a platoon partner for Margot in CF that can hit RHP, and maybe a platoon partner for Renfroe, and hope that he is his first half, not second half.

Josh Naylor swung at some of the legitimately worst pitches I saw anyone swing at last season. I was not impressed at all with the at bats he put together. I really hope he isn't a part of the big league roster next season.

Just saw where Eric Thames option was not picked up MIL. He has spent half of his time in a corner OF spot. What if we were to platoon him in LF with Renfroe or Myers. His option was $7.5M, so he should not expect to break the bank. At $5M ± for a season, might be a good power option.

Thames (32) has not played the OF in the ML since 2012 ... last three as a 1B for MILW. Plus his offense AWAY from MILW is just bad.

Well he has played games in OF in both 18 and 19, not many, and probably in part to finding a spot for Braun. But just throwing out ideas that are out of the box in an effort to get better offense against RHP. No stone left unturned! 🙂

I've made my point clear about Naylor as well.
I still think he will improve but IMO,for 2020,he should not be counted on too highly.
I'd like to see him in AAA working on fielding and raking to raise his trade value.
Unless the DH comes soon I think he gets traded to the A.L.
OR....if he improves defensively I would be fine with him getting 200-300 AB's against RH pitching only.
Partial platoon with Myers/Renfroe and backup at 1b(although Hos doesn't miss many games)/PH/DH
He should "not" be an everyday corner outfielder and if he isn't.....I'm thinking he may be worth more to us as a trade piece than a part time
OF with poor defense.
I would think he should be included in any talks for a Mazara/Benintendi/Mancini(still easily my favorite target)
BTW...Mancini is a RH hitter but his splits are ridiculous.
He hits RH pitching just as good or even better than LH.
Would be expensive in prospects....but he's 27 and Arb1......and you would think the Orioles would be prime candidates to take 3-4 really
good prospects to improve their future outlook.
He had a .364 OBP with 35 HR's......and a .899 OPS.
In Baltimore....but still.
He's a rare case where I would be willing to trade Patino and/or Campusano and/or even Edwards.
Weathers/Lauer/Campusano/Naylor/Baez.
Patino/Lauer/Naylor/Miller/Bolanos or similar arm.
I'd do either all day long.

Mancini can hit .... but isn’t he a truly bad defensive OF ... the kind of guy more suited to the AL as a 1B/DH?
Having said that ... and if we are OK with bad defense in LF/RF ... the opinion of the two new coaches may go a long way to influence Preller ... Dickerson and Kirby.
Last year BALT had him half the time at 1B/DH .... his OF UZR/150 (-9.7) was 71st out of 77 with > 700 OF innings. For reference, Reyes was at -8.6.
Then are we buying high since he is coming off his best offensive year with a wRC+ 132 but the two previous years were good but not great at 116 and 91.
27, 3 years control, in arbitration, bad fielder suited for the AL, coming off a career best year .... Be a bit cautious of over paying and would just add an extra corner OF to the mix unless Renfroe was a key part going the other way (it will not be Myers and his contract).
