Giants at Padres

Tomorrow's game also already postponed

Best case scenario is no other COVID infections among Giants or Padres players, staff, etc.  If they can determine this quickly,  a possible double-header on Sunday but probably just a slim chance that will happen.  Health comes first.

I think it will be Sunday 13th doubleheader.  Scheduled game is at 1:00 "anyway", and San Fran is off on 14th.  That still leaves a game to make up.

Theoretically they could make that game up as a day game ON the 14th:  The Giants are off (@ Seattle on 15th).  Padres home anyway, but vs LAD that night.  Doubt MLB would allow it (it would be a back-to-back "doubleheader" for the Pads, but not for the Giants?); would probably have to move the LAD game that night to a doubleheader the next day or 2... convoluted.

More likely is on Thurs 17th as a night game in SD.  Pads have day off after LAD (then to: Seattle), Giants have an off day between @ Seattle, and @ Oakland, so do-able for both.    Travel "worse" for both teams, especially us, but better than moving the missed game/s TO San Fran during that last series of the season.

Report out that the Giant’s player who tested positive has since tested negative twice .... false positive?

Doubleheader tomorrow seems likely. No good option for the other game.

One different option since SF is in SD ... have that game made up on Monday (SF has an off day) and the lag the first SD-LAD game to a double header on either Tuesday or Wednesday. That does minimize travel issues.

The other is just not play it IF at the end of the season that game has no impact on seeding. The disadvantage of that is if it is needed and they don’t know until the end of the season ... doubleheader on that last Sunday in SF (or the game on the off day on Monday)? Either option messes up off time to prepare for the playofffs.

I don't like playing a double-header before facing the Dodgers.  Want to go into the series with as many rested bullpen pieces as necessary.  Depending what happens today and tomorrow, could be fighting for 1st place during the series!  Wouldn't that be something!  Go Padres!

These two days off really screws up the planned rotation against the Dodgers.  Probably no way now that Dodgers don't get a peek at Lamet even if Clevinger is used on Sunday.  It will be interesting how the matchups will go for the next 4 days!

Interesting Managerial call ... could go with Lamet and Clevinger Sunday vs. SF (try to bury them from any 2nd place chance) and lag Richards to Monday.

That may give the Padres better odds of winning those two games and creating better odds (over PHIL who is hot) for the #4 seed. Given the recent reports ... the first 3 game series will be at the home of the higher seed ... and not really interested in having the Padres fly to the East Coast for the first time this year and playing in PHIL ... make them fly to SD.

Second round would be in a neutral site (either Houston or Texas) and and is set up for the LAD whether 1st or 4th seed.

How about

Sunday: Lamet and Clevinger vs SF

Monday: Richards vs. LAD

Tuesday: Davies vs. LAD

Wednesday: Bullpen day (unless Paddack is ready) ... just moving the bullpen day from Tuesday to Wednesday and gives Paddack an extra day to recover.

Last time we played a double-header against Seattle on 27 Aug, thought we had a really good chance to win two with our pitchers (Lamet and Richards) going deep into the games.  If it hadn't been for that fantastic comeback in game one, we would have been swept.  Hopefully, if it is a double-header tomorrow, we'll do much better (since I think we have a better team than the last double-header) and have enough left in the tank to take on the Dodgers beginning Monday.

Protocols completed ... doubleheader on Sunday.
