This temporarily helps the Padres. Clevinger stays on 5-day schedule, Richards extra rest.
Lines up Lamet on extra rest day after a doubleheader (pen saver?) & Davies for 1st 2 vs. LAD; take our best shot. One extra day rest for Paddack. If he can't go, likely becomes an all out bullpen game since #1-4 SP all not available. NOT making up the remaining SF game the 17th helps the Padres by not having to turn to a 6th SP &/or the bullpen that day, and being back on "regular" (though adjusted now) rotation on 18th.
BUT the missing game is highly likely to have to get made up. SF likely in playoff/seeding race down to the wire, and we COULD be. Doubleheader (think "14 inning game") last day of regular season NOT ideal. Maybe it's a "meaningless" game/s to us = heavy backups, but still some guys have to play all/most of both games.
Pick your poison, but if I had the choice, I'd probably rather make it up the 17th after the LAD series; keeps it in SD (16-6 at home), and the other off days last week of season plus 2 we just had "enough". That day is SF's last off day, but they will be coming "home" from Seattle to be @ Oakland the 18th. Rare schedule opening that could work for both teams...

Quote from fenn68 on September 13, 2020, 11:54 amQuote from hoffy51 on September 13, 2020, 11:45 amDo teams get to call up an extra pitcher when playing a double header?
Yes, and the winner is Lucchesi! (I guess they have not fully forgotten him).
In addition Guerra on the 10 IL (probably finishes him for the season ... and playoffs) and replaced by Taylor Williams.
Acee reports Guerra went to the IL for "personal reasons" not COVID related.

INTERESTING... Guerra hasn't pitched since 9/4, so could be retroactive all the way back to 9/15, couldn't he?
Extremely unlikely to be on playoff roster. Hmmm....
With the uncertainty around Paddack's ankle, I wouldn't be surprised if it's Lucchesi "staying" up for Guerra (at least through the LAD series), not Williams. We'll see...

I was thinking that too .... Lucchesi getting the Wed start heading a bullpen day?
The other thought is with Strahm on the IL ... down to Pomeranz, Hill, Morejon as LHP ... maybe having that 4th LHP for match-ups might have some value and one that should be able to go early (and multiple innings) allowing them to push Morejon as a later game option.

Quote from MrPadre19 on September 13, 2020, 4:14 pmSo much for the double header taxing our bullpen.
Now Richard only has to go 5 or 6 and we’re completely ready for the Duds!

Quote from fenn68 on September 13, 2020, 5:58 pmI hope that baserunning blunder by Tatis does not come back to haunt the Padres.
No idea what he was thinking. 2 outs ... on first .... has great speed ... Machado hits a ground ball single to RF .... Tatis eases up going to 2B then changes his mind and runs well past 2nd ... RF throw a soft loopy toss to 2B and Tatis is so far off is out trying to get back. Why he was not going all out to 3rd from the get go ... not idea. As bad once he committed well past 2B should have just kept going.
Tatis is having a bad series offensively and on the base paths.

Quote from 3fingersplit on September 13, 2020, 6:37 pmSo the Dodgers have been proclaimed the best team in baseball this year and guess what ?
The Padres are 2 games behind in the NL West and have the 3rd best record in all of Major League Baseball with the Dodgers coming into Petco for a 3 game series....how cool would it be for the Dodgers to leave San Diego in 2nd place in the NL West ?
I love the fact that it has been SOOOOO long since my Padres have actually played games that mattered in Mid September....this should be a fun series and for the first time in a long time I get the feeling that the Padres actually match up with the Dodgers and like the Dodgers can hurt you anywhere in the batting order if the pitcher makes a mistake and has the rotation and bullpen that can hold the Dodgers in check.
I know I'll be wearing my home whites for the next three nights 🙂
Go Pads !!!
