Setting up for Stammen to start the 5th ... and when the LHH come up ... a call to either Hill or Strahm ... then back to a RHP (depending on the score) ...

Wasn't a big fan of this strategy at first but it seems to work pretty good.

Ona  really crushed  that one, good for him

Stammen warming up .... Morejon not in trouble so setting up for the 5th?

Did someone call a bullpen day and not tell us?

Morejon probably on about a 30 pitch limit.  Really don't think this was planned...looking ahead immediately, Baez & Lucchesi of course are available as "voluntary" recalls.  Of course any/all if someone is hurt...

Why would Morejon have been warming up in the 2nd if it wasn’t planned?

Paddack only made one bad pitch, gave up one hit,and had a decent lead.

If he was hurt they would have pulled him immediately or wouldn’t have let him go back out for the 2nd inning.
I don’t get it either but an injury doesn’t add up to me.....

That was a no doubter by Ona ...

His first hit in MLB!  Just like Campusano!

Maybe they're setting him up to be in the pen end of year / playoffs when down to 4 SP's...

We will see but his velocity was lower than normal in the 1st and then in the 2nd even lower ... maybe that combo was enough for the Padres to engage in preventive measures to find out what was going on. Never know what Paddack told them between innings ...

pity since he actually looked as though he had better command tonight.

That was a *HUGE* out for Strahm to get Belt to weakly ground out with runners on 2nd + 3rd with 2 outs ... Belt has been ON FIRE!

Paddack .... sprained right ankle ... X-Rays negative.

Bad news /  Good news.   Hopefully not a "high" sprain...

Bullpen looked excellent tonight after the unexpected ankle injury to Paddack.  Paddack was throwing very well - too bad it had to end so soon.  Solid defense and timely hitting early brought this one home.  Let's do it again tomorrow!

"Pen Again"!    6 Pitchers, 7 IP, scattered 7 hits incl 2 2B, only 1 BB, 10 K... and no runs!  Outstanding.

These are the types of games where prior year Pads would have imploded.  But even when pen was struggling earlier in year, there have been multiple pen games this year (often Quantrill in the middle of it) where those guys have just kept handing off the baton and gotten it done.
