Fernando Tatis, Jr
Quote from Henry Silvestre on August 15, 2022, 7:27 amQuote from dusty on August 15, 2022, 7:10 amI have been trying to figure this out as well...you are on the 60 day IL...take the 80 game suspension it isn't like you are going to be able to do anything anyways...unless it wasnt in March. But this whole thing is mind boggling if it was failed in March. If you are worried about your image...just accept the 80 game suspension and come out and say you disagree with it but are going to accept punishment since you are going to miss the time anyways...so never affects you...in the grand scheme of things other than people question you. You can then spin it as a way to speed up healing and help limit any question of your body healing.
My understanding is he passed his March test and then tested + in this later one..if he had failed March. The MLB wouldn't have allowed him to be in the clubhouse or in AA games at all..had to have been a mid/late July- early August test

Quote from fenn68 on August 15, 2022, 7:38 amIf it is an 80 GAME suspension … likely that would not have started until he was off the IL anyway.
Since it seems as though Preller did not know until just before the game the other day, I suspect Tatis did not know either. So IF (and no confirmation as far as I know) this was a March test failure … it would have been MLB holding onto the results until Tatis was near coming off the IL and potentially being reinstated to play. I guess that prevents gaming by the Padres to take him off the IL in March … serve the suspension while rehabbing then be ready now … basically defeating the purpose.
So IF March is correct … think MLB (not Tatis or the Padres) was the hold-up and did not report the results.

Quote from MrPadre19 on August 15, 2022, 8:57 amThis is what I’m having issue with…why no one is asking this?
Suspended on Day 1 he’s now playing.
Plus the Team would have known right?
Why go on rehab assignment and talk about his return etc?My guess is it was a recent test right?……..but can anyone confirm?

I guess that makes sense…..but that’s so cold blooded if true.
Everyone assuming he’s about to play and then Wham!
Still would like to know for sure….

Quote from LynchMob on August 15, 2022, 9:40 amThis would have been Tatis' age-23 season. No player in major league history has put up more Wins Above Replacement through their-age 22 season in fewer than 300 games played.

Quote from fenn68 on August 15, 2022, 12:02 pmBased on all the reporting … no one seems to know anything specific on the timeline of case. All speculation … may be some HIPAA rules that limit what (when) can be disclosed.
Did hear that Tatis left the minor league club without telling anyone and just returned to SD on his own last Friday. Sounds that is consistent with Tatis learning he failed the test and would be suspended. Preller said he learned just a couple h0urs before the game (not sure from whom). Both of those timeline points suggest a recent test that was failed.
I have my own speculation … during ST all players were tested once they returned from the lockout and he may just have passed. However, then he knew he was on the 60 day IL and sometime in the future he was subject to a random test during the season … could he have believed that he could use the PED and skirt a positive test? Then he got “unlucky” … was tested … and positive. Could be consistent with him starting rehab.
No idea how long the substance he used remains detectable in the system but he clearly knew he would be tested in ST as part of the MLB restart.

Quote from fenn68 on August 15, 2022, 12:38 pmSide: a report said Preller learned of the failed test on Friday afternoon FROM A MEMBER OF THE TATIS CAMP … Preller then called the commissioner’s office to confirm. (Probably has to do with HIPAA) and the CBA. Note the MLBPA issued the first statement.
