First though was a David Wells clone. For those older ... Micky Lolich.

Quote from Brian Connelly on October 7, 2020, 11:17 amHis Dad had the same build: "Stocky" or the term when I was a kid: "Husky". Probably always going to have to walk the line between his 'bulk' helping vs. hurting him.
Seeing his pitches, the word that stuck in my head is "Sweeping"...

As for Weathers -- one of the most intriguing inclusions on the Opening Day roster -- his role has not yet been announced. He might do a bit of everything. The 21-year-old southpaw is a crucial piece in a bullpen that's short on lefties and long men. Weathers is capable of pitching in both short and long relief, and the Padres haven't ruled out a six-man rotation. It's entirely possible that when San Diego plays 17 games across 17 days in mid-April, Weathers gets a start or two.

1. Ryan Weathers, LHP, Padres (age 21, DOB: Dec. 17, 1999)
Weathers has yet to make his official debut but he did pitch 1 1/3 scoreless innings in the National League Division Series last fall, highlighted by a strikeout of Cody Bellinger. The son of 19-year big leaguer David Weathers, he went seventh overall in the 2018 Draft and saw his fastball and slider add 4-5 mph of velocity at San Diego's alternate site last summer.2. Tucupita Marcano, INF, Padres (age 21, DOB: Sept. 16, 1999)
Like Weathers, Marcano saw his last regular-season action in low Class A. He'll probably return to the Minors once Trent Grisham comes off the injured list, but he's an interesting long-term prospect as a bat-first infielder.

Quote from 84padres on April 3, 2021, 9:25 pmHe looks like he could be a real weapon for us long or short relief or spot starter if needed. I love the way he goes right after the hitters with no fear

Quote from hoffy51 on April 4, 2021, 3:31 amWhen the Padres drafted him I was bummed that they didn't Matthew Liberatore, who is now in the Cardinals organization. But Weathers is pitching effectively in the majors, while Liberatore isn't even on the Cardinals' 40 man roster and in the minor leagues. Whew! The Padres obviously made the right decision.

I like the Lolich comparison!
If he can have as successful a career as Micky, what a gem.
