COLO AT THE PADRES
Quote from Brian Connelly on September 8, 2020, 1:47 pmQuote from fenn68 on September 8, 2020, 12:15 pmBroken left index finger is bad .... but just how bad? Might take a week to better understand.
Has to hinder Hosmer’s throwing (so even if he can return ... DH for the playoffs?)
How much does a broken left index finger hamper a LHH? Not good but can he play through that?
Given how we are struggling coming up with any legit replacement .... can Hosmer still be the better option ... at least as the DH vs. RHP?
SDUT says "lucky break" (horrible pun intended); location of break not as bad as could be. B/c Hos is LH, the left index finger is less critical to batting than 3rd/4th digit would be. Issue will be throwing. Hopeful he can return before playoffs!

- Trent Grisham (L) CF
- Fernando Tatis Jr. (R) SS
- Manny Machado (R) 3B
- Mitch Moreland (L) 1B
- Austin Nola (R) DH
- Wil Myers (R) RF
- Jason Castro (L) C
- Jurickson Profar (S) LF
- Greg Garcia (L) 2B
RHP .... Cronenworth gets a day off and Garcia at 2B. Castro catches to give a catching day off to Nola who can DH.

Almonte activated (bit surprised over Allen) but can cover the OF (somewhat) allowing Profar / Myers to move around if necessary.

Quote from Randy Manese on September 8, 2020, 3:19 pmIt was a switch hitter that was brought up but not the one we thought. Almonte, if he ever makes contact, has more hard contact ability than Allen but it's an adventure out there with him in the OF; also, if we play Garcia in the field, probably a better PH than Allen. Don't expect to see too much of him before either Pham or Mejia is ready.

Quote from Randy Manese on September 8, 2020, 4:01 pmCronenworth getting a rest tonight, which he probably needs. In last night's game surprised that Profar wasn't told to bunt to get Mateo over. When the count got 0-2 on Profar and he had to foul a couple off to stay alive, I could see an extra-inning game coming but it looked like it was meant to be with Garcia fighting off pitches and getting that hit on a 1-2 count. Would have been interesting to see if Grisham or Tatis would have gotten him over but I'll take those results anytime. Beat the Rockies!

Better PH / occasional DH than G. Allen. Definitely not as good defensively.

Quote from fenn68 on September 8, 2020, 6:50 pmCOLO has some bad pitching but the Padre hitters (except Moreland) did a nice job of just laying off the bad pitches to set the table for Myers ... and another slam.

Quote from MrPadre19 on September 8, 2020, 6:57 pmNow Clevinger just needs to settle in.
He needs to figure out how to not start slow like he has been.
Our offense won’t be able to bail him out every time in the playoffs against good pitching.
