Around the League...non Padres

Former Friars Taylor Trammell and Hunter Renfroe don the Golden Sombrero last night( still, not as rough a night as Yoan Moncado- 5 AB, 5 K!)

If you want to put a smile on your face, watch this video ...

Yermin Mercedes, age 28, starts 2021 going 8-for-8 ... Breath-taking! Eye-popping! FUN!

That is definitely a cool story!

Surely that must be a record?

The Giants have claimed outfielder Skye Bolt via waivers from the Athletics and designated right-hander Ashton Goudeau for assignment, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.

The 27-year-old Bolt only spent a few days in limbo, as the Athletics designated him April 1. He joined the team as a fourth-round pick in 2015 and later ranked as one of Baseball America’s top 20 Athletics prospects on multiple occasions...

... just in time to get a game winning pinch hit against us...  This guy was my 1st choice among the small wave of guys DFA'd prior to Opening Day.  But Pads (probably correctly with Grisham almost back) decided optionable pitching depth was more important and "used" the Javy Guerra to 60-IL spot for the trade for James Norwood.

Here's a fantastic walk-off double play ...

... and it's also a good video to show kids who think head-first slides are cool ... just sayin' ...

Turns out I have a major pet peeve ... with guys getting HBP'd who aren't getting out of the way ... or worse, are either leaning in, or checking a swing ... and those who get hit on the body armor ...

This is the most embarrassing / maddening call I think I've ever seen!

The story sez: umpires are human, resulting in 23 plays since 2008 in which batters were awarded first base on balls that hit them in the strike zone -- an average of about one or two per season.

--

The good news, in today's case, is this ... “The guy was hit by the pitch in the strike zone,” Kulpa (the home plate ump) told a pool reporter after the game. “I should have called him out.”

Totally agree Lynch...that was pathetic!

Surely any pitch in the strike zone should be called just that, a strike.

Bad for baseball.

Rangers Nate Lowe has 14 RBI in 6 games!

Hack Wilson's long standing record could finally fall....as Lowe is on pace for 378 RBI.....

I love these early season " he's on pace to" stats. Always good fun.

Whenever this guy gets cut by SF, the Chargers need to sign him!

Bolt on the trousers, shoulders, helmet, and back of the Jersey.

Way cool!

I made the "strike" call in a travel club game on a HBP in the strike zone/check swing a few times. And once it ended with the manager of the hitting team getting ejected. It is tough call, but the right call.
