Around the League...non Padres
Quote from MrPadre19 on January 23, 2021, 2:42 pmI get it.... but I’m still Ok with this deal.
If Snell was a free agent he’d be getting $25 mil per.
We lost some good prospects but for the money we basically have Snell/Profar/Kim.
For 3-4 years.

Quote from Randy Manese on January 31, 2021, 11:11 amEven with Boston picking up $16M of Price's salary, the Dodgers are currently around $5-6M below the CB Tax Threshold. If they resign Turner, they'll easily exceed that threshold but probably not all that concerned given their deep pockets. Even if they resign Turner, I think they are going to miss Pederson and Hernandez as valuable pieces to their past offensive production. Sure they have guys like Rios and Lux, but the comfort and dependability of those that have left went a long way to the Dodgers' success and probably should not be overlooked. If they don't resign Turner, I'm thinking it could be an interesting story of how the "new" Dodger team comes together without the reliable depth they previously had. Without Turner, the Padres (without major injuries) could realistically give them a run for their money. We don't have Betts but they don't have Tatis Jr. Let the games begin!

Quote from BoosterSD on February 2, 2021, 12:47 pmAngels pitching coach Mickey Callaway has been suspended do to lewd behavior acquisitions. Rumor has it that he and Bauer did not get along in CLE. Could this be the avenue that ANA can take/use to easily part ways with Callaway and lead to a Bauer signing?
Conspiracy Theorists unite, secretly!! Haha

Quote from MrPadre19 on February 3, 2021, 11:18 amIt's sure starting to look like quite a few two team races in many of the Leagues divisions.
Obviously the case in the NL West between the Padres and the Dudgers.
In the NL Central it's got to be the Cards and the ...uh the.....?
I would say the Cubs still but ooh...that rotation.I guess the Reds could still contend but they shouldn't be as good as last year.
The NL East will be the most competitive and may be the one for Padre fans to keep an eye on for the Wild Card implication but i see ATL and NYM as the teams to beat. But it's hard to rule out any of the teams in that Division to be honest.
With the Twins additions this offseason it sure appears to me the AL Central will come down to Min and CHW.
In the AL East it seems the Yankees and Blue Jays will be the teams to beat but...the Rays could still be a factor.
The AL West.....I don't see anyone giving the Astros any kind of competition really although the A's always seem to regress and then still contend.
It will be interesting to see how this changes for a couple teams once Bauer/Ozuna sign with someone.

Quote from Randy Manese on February 3, 2021, 11:20 amI find it strange that the Brewers signed Wong. They already had Hiura, who is not a great defender at 2b but a superior bat, so now they'll move him to first? What about Urias? Certainly, he's not an everyday 3b and is only average at best at shortstop. Maybe they found out what the Padres already knew - Urias thought he could become another Altuve and has now lost those skills that previously made him special.

Quote from MrPadre19 on February 3, 2021, 11:37 amThey sure seem to be cornering the market on average infielders.
I'm guessing Wong at 2b,Hiura at 3b and Urias at SS?
But they also have Arcia and recently signed both Lopes and Daniel Robertson.

Quote from fenn68 on February 3, 2021, 12:05 pmWong was a surprisingly costly sign for MILW. Guessing it is a Hiura - Wong - Arcia - Urias? INF since a lot of question about their 1B options ... current guy was good last season but had been DFA by others a couple of times.
Not exciting but probably good defense and are banking on some better run prevention to help the pitchers coupled with bounce back seasons for Cain and Yelich.
With two quality SP at the top of the rotation and Hader / Williams to close games ... and in the NL Central they might have a chance if they add one more decent SP.

Quote from MrPadre19 on February 3, 2021, 1:35 pmI would think Vogelbach would be needed at 1b as a power source....not much on that team other than Yellich.
They were probably hoping he would be their DH.

Well he does have power ... and will take a walk ..... but a .200ish hitter and just an “average” OPS guy with less than stellar defense. More of a DH on a second division team.
The fact that Seattle and Toronto both DFA him in the past two season might suggest that if you see him every day ... not so compelling ... even with power.
