Not with the Padres ... sure seems as though a lot of the quality players have already gone down with major injuries ... both pitchers and position players.
A mix that may really impact the contenders in both leagues.
Looks like Strider with ATL is probably done for awhile, if not the season as well. Looks like TJ as well.

I'm almost shocked that we didn't trade for him , that's just the kind of luck we have when we trade with Cleveland .

Quote from 3fingersplit on April 14, 2024, 6:47 pmJust saw this…Tommy Pham is signing a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox….his 8th team in 11 years tells you everything you need to know about him as a person. I expect him to play for at least two teams this season…he played five years for St Louis, two years with Tampa Bay, two years with the Padres ( 2020 Covid year and 2021) so there is nine of his eleven seasons…played for Cincy, Boston in 2022 and Mets, Dbacks in 2023 and now the White Sox and whoever in 2024
Thank God AJ didn’t bring that a$$ hat back

Check out Abrams’ and Gore’s stats if you really want to get hot under the collar.

Gore's line is propped up by a dominant start against a pathetic A's lineup. He's got a 4.80 ERA in the rest of his starts. He's looked more like a 5th starter than the future ace he was touted to be early in his prospect days. I do think Abrams is going to be a stud. The only thing that seemed to be holding him back was his tendency to chase out of the zone and make weak contact. He looks like he's making better swing decisions in the early going this year.

A side note on Abrams … he rates and #26 out of 26 qualified SS for defense. IF he had remained a Padre we probably would have seen him in CF (remember some talk of that when he was in the system). Given his bat and speed … that would have been fine.
Following that to an illogical end … would the Padres then have traded Merrill or Kim to get pitching? Would Merrill become the LF? …. Could the Padres have traded for King, Thorpe, Vasquez, Brito without Soto to deal? Without Thorpe could the Padres have traded for Cease?
Delete Cease and King would we be happy with Musgrove, Darvish, Gore, Waldron, and TBD prospect as the starting 5? If Merrill was the LF … some would be complaining about his lack of power not fitting the role of a LF.
For the record never liked the Soto deal … never liked Soto … but since Gore is still a bottom of the rotation arm (Padres have a lot coming who will not be worse), Wood is still a TBD, Hassell and Susana have stalled in the minors only Abrams is succeeding. So, just looking in the moment was this just a trade of Abrams for King, Thorpe, Brito, and Vasquez? Or Abrams and Gore for Cease, King, Brito, and Vasquez if factor out the minor leaguers?
Everything is so intertwined it is impossible to focus on any one player / move. Still, would like to have kept Abrams.
