Around the League...non Padres
Quote from fenn68 on April 2, 2024, 11:24 amLAD continue with the former Padres rejects ... they have now claimed Taylor Trammell (out of options so on the 26 man roster) ... that after recently the Crismatt / Lamet moves ... and just before signing Pomeranz to a minor league deal.
If I were an LAD fan ... I would be embarrassed if I took SD leftovers.

I don't understand why we didn't take a shot, here. They really seem hellbent on Profar or Pham in LF at this point.

Kind of approach this as the opposite to what Fenn said. We absolutely need more OF depth. If we're not willing to go and get someone via trade or FA at this point, a guy like Trammel is absolutely worth a dice roll, in my mind. LH bat, solid defender, potential power... Just take a shot and DFA him if it doesn't work out in a month.

Trammell is a flat out bad hitter ... in his ML time and even in his time in the upper minors. LAD may use him as a defensive replacement or PR but that is it.
I would not bump anyone off the Padres 26 man roster for him ... would call up Marsee before taking on Trammell ... maybe even Mitchell or Locastro or Mercado.

To each their own. I would not, under any circumstances, disrupt Marsee's development for a need. Dude isn't ready yet.
Fair point on Locastro, but I'm also not so quick to absolutely write off anyone with as sporadic and short a ML track record as Trammell. He's not the answer, by any means, but for a team without a plan at this point in the season at LF, I think it isn't out of the question at all to roll the dice on a waiver claim (even if it's not Trammell).

My sons name is Tyler Nevin.
If the A’s don’t want Ruiz I’d love to have him back.
Agreed!
Happily add his speed and D to the OF group
Don’t get blinded by the speed. Last year for the 14 qualified CF Ruiz was:
#13 in WAR
#12 wRC+ at a poor 79 … 21% below average
#14 in dWAR at -4.2
Basically can’t hit or field, with no power … but he sure can run.
Oh I get it....but he got on base enough to lead the AL in SB's and have you seen the guys in the OF they "didn't" send down?
These are middle of the order bats that barely have an OPS higher than Ruiz.
That Org is a mess....where are all the great players they got for Olson,Murphy,Manaea,Semein,Montas,Donaldson,
and Tyler Nevin is not better than Ruiz even if I wish he was.
All that makes me wonder what else was at issue with Ruiz in OAK ... agree not much else in OAK yet they option Ruiz ...OAK may be a hot mess but still they must have had a reason he was the one optioned.
No validation on this BUT one conspiracy theory is that Ruiz along with three others were wearing stuff from a dive bar in OAK that has been very open in wanting the A’s to stay, sell the team, etc.
Ruiz optioned, Rooker benched, Pache traded, and a fourth player released. Again no idea if true … but possible. Don’t go against the guys paying your salary … especially if you are not that good.

Not with the Padres ... sure seems as though a lot of the quality players have already gone down with major injuries ... both pitchers and position players.
A mix that may really impact the contenders in both leagues.
