I thought about that too ... wonder about his health / conditioning at this point. Was surprised CINN did not try to nurse him along a bit longer to see if he had anything left but they make a quick call post the IL.
Just a Myers at at his worst in SD would be a decent upgrade at DH and sub at 1B and some value on the bench in the OF.

NY fans are tough and hearing a lot of pressure on the underperforming METS to can Showalter as the METS underperform (note a lot of Padre fans wanted to hire Showalter).
Made me think of the similarities between the 2023 METS and the Padres. Both with mega payrolls and major underperformance. One other similarities is both owners are mega rich ... love baseball as fans ... and opened the checkbooks to sign big name players.
METS are 34-40 and 7 games out of the WC ... Padres are 35-39 and 6 games out of the WC.
METS #1 CBT payroll at $377.5MM (unbelievable) ... Padres #3 CBT payroll at $275.8MM.
Major underperforming METS include Scherzer, Verlander, Lindor, and Marte ... and all are back in 2024. Plus still funding Cano.
I guess an argument can be made that opening the checkbook by a "fan" leads to some ill advised expensive signings and not necessarily the desired result. Don't know about Siedler but clearly from the onset Cohn was deep into the decision process with the METS.
Also, just because of prior success, some of those older mangers are not slam dunk success in different environment ... now it is Showalter but Girardi in Phil lasted a half season? Maddon the genius in TB landed with the LAA and some super stars and won nothing. Flip side ... Dusty Baker and Bochy are producing ... helps with players who deliver. Basically a gamble with anyone.

I guess that MLB has made some recent comments about the future of expansion to 32 teams (in maybe 5-7 years). Expect it to be coordinated with the next CBA since a lot of Union issue come into play if expansion triggers some other changes.
Beyond the CBA the other issue was the resolution of the ballpark issue in OAK and TB and it appears they are moving to resolution.
Feeling the two new teams will be located one in the West and one in the East and at the same time regional realignment will come to be. Both the league and the Union wants to reduce travel during the season and build regional rivalries ... actually would be good for the "traveling fans" to have more options to go to road game conveniently.
Details will be a negotiation issue but good chance they end up with four eight team Divisions by region. I could see the "WEST" evolving into SD - LAA - LAD - AZ - LV - SF - SEA - and an expansion team (some suggest Portland and other suggest Oakland with a new ballpark). COLO - TEX - HOU move the the "WEST-CENTRAL".
32 teams / 4 divisions make setting up playoff configurations a lot easier (and a lot of creative options).
At this point just interesting ... 5-7 years is a long way off (at least for me).

I’m a bit excited for expansion moreso than years past. It may do one of two things (or both). More large contracts for the really desirable players (as more teams in the bidding) and at the same time lowering team payrolls as (potentially) less big money players per team which may balance out the competitive teams more.
One interesting aspect is the minor leagues:
1) 9-10 more minor league teams needed which may/will bring back affiliates that were axed in the minors shakeup.
2) need to strengthen scouting/development. More teams to balance out prospect balance

Man I just noticed the year old friend Travis Jankowski is putting together in Texas. He's hitting .327/.417/.420 in 150 ABs. He would be third in the league in OBP if he qualified. He's 14-15 stealing bases too. That's quite the breakout for Freddie.

In case he hadn’t done enough already Shohei Ohtani pitches a complete game shutout in Game 1 of a double header then proceeds hit two home runs in game 2.
Amazing.
Reminds me of seeing Michael Jordan and Bo Jackson in their primes.

Alfaro is available again…aren’t many more clutch than this guy.
Hedges not only has a job but was just traded for by a playoff team….Alfaro can’t hold a job.

Ohtani has a UCL tear. What a bummer. I hope he doesn't end up needing a second Tommy John.
