Did you see the video of his call to his Mom?
I must have been cutting onions at the time…….🥲

Quote from fenn68 on August 17, 2022, 9:48 amThe Rangers are dismissing longtime president of baseball operations Jon Daniels, Ken Rosenthal and Levi Weaver of The Athletic report (via Twitter). Texas announced the move shortly thereafter, adding that general manager Chris Young will now oversee all baseball operations decisions and processes. The move comes just days after the organization fired manager Chris Woodward.
Daniels had a long run in Texas ... but I guess the big money spent on FA and the new ballpark ... underperforming had consequences. Not sure the last time Texas was even relevant for the playoffs.
Buddy of Preller ... do we see him as a "special advisor" in SD?

Not unexpected ... OAK was subtly managing his AB (giving AB to his young prospect replacement) probably to ensure he did not make the needed AB to vest on a very large 2023 contract.
Seems like the trigger for this move was Andrus (or is agent) publicly voicing their displeasure of his lack of playing time ... OAK responded and just released him. I guess that takes care of 2023 (likely to not have vested) but Andrus gets an extra month and a half off with pay and OAK loses the distraction.
Note: with just a couple of very minor remaining moves ... OAK could (should) have a amazing payroll in 2023 of less than $30MM and potentially less than $25MM. MLBPA will be calling!

Quote from fenn68 on August 17, 2022, 11:43 amNow that Chris Young is running stuff in Texas ... wonder if he tries to poach some Padre front office / field personnel since he should have some knowledge of them from his Padre time.

Open spot on the 40 man! Might be an upgrade from Batten and insurance for injury to Kim or Cronenworth ... it COULD happen.
Not a big fan of Andrus (certainly not at what his contract was) but if released can be signed for pro-rated league minimum for the rest of the season and he was carrying something just under 100 in OPS+.
Technical question. Since OAK released Andrus they are on the hook for his contract that had a vesting clause for 2023 based on PA. IF he signs with another club for 2022 remaining season and actually gets the PA to vest on his "old contract" ... is that still valid? Is OAK on the hook since I assume the remainder of 2022 contract does not change the initial deal.
Unlikely to happen but ... just curious.

Except as I recall ... that was not his strong suit under his mega multi-year deal.

Quote from JasonE135 on August 17, 2022, 1:20 pmHe still has roughly $5 million left on his contract for this year. Can the Padres afford that? For a backup?
