When Mateo was with the Padres, people on this board couldn't run him out of town fast enough. I agree with BoosterSD and the current numbers prove it. Kim is at a 101 wRC+, which is league average as a hitter while Mateo is at 85, 15% below league average. Kim has better OPS, BA, OBP, higher walk rate, lower k rate and is extremely sure handed in 3 positions. Certainly Mateo has speed over Kim but he has speed over virtually everybody and has had that talent for years. Kim is not a base clogger - he can move and is 7 of 8 stealing - Padres just don't run very much.
Kim is getting better in just his second year in stateside ball - this is Mateo's breakout year at age 27 and that breakout is nothing much to write home about all things considered. Sure, we're paying Kim 7M a year, but I like what he does for this team and in my opinion, is a far more complete player than Mateo is or ever will be.

I was using the term “breakout” loosely.
But “league average” for $7 mil isn’t what Preller was hoping for either I’m sure.
Like I said…it’s just Mateos speed that I miss.

I'm sure the Brewers and their fans are none too happy that Hader is gone and Devin Williams and Taylor Rogers aren't getting them either.
Hopefully Hader settles down the rest of the way...and next year as well.We're gonna need him even if this offense really takes off after Tatis returns.Just once I'd like a Padre offense that ranks in the top 10 if not top 5 in the league.

Wynton Bernard got called up by the Rockies. We were friends in middle school. He's been grinding in the minors for 10 years. It's cool to see him finally make it to the show.

In 1927, a year which Babe Ruth hit 60( !) home runs and drove in 165 runs(!), how in the HELL did Lou Gehrig drive in 175!!!!!
Now that is production from a first baseman!

It's actually kind of crazy how many guys I went to school with made it to the show. Wynton went to a different highschool than I did, but 6 guys that I overlapped at least 1 year of highschool with made it to the league. Alex Dickerson, Austin Wynns, Brett Bochy, Kevin Newman, Thomas Neal and Xavier Scruggs.
