An interesting note I saw. Luis Garcia of the Nats is hitting .290 in 221 ABs. His OBP is only .296 because he's only taken 2 walks all season.

Two things,
1. Kim would have better power numbers if he played in the band box stadiums of the AL East. And even the way it is now, Mateo is less than .30 points better Kim in SLG. And in OPS+, Mateo is 87 and Kim 103. So no, Mateo does not have better power than Kim.
2. And this is most important, Mateo couldnt hit water if he fell out of a boat when he was in SD. Even in BAL, he is still only hitting .221 compared to Kims .248.
Mateos defense is not that much better than Kims to warrant any concern over losing Mateo to DFA.
Plus, neither are playing SS long term in SD, IF Tatis can stay healthy.

AJ probably listen to everyone on this forum and got rid of Mateo.

I liked Mateo. Of course, I like speed.
And Booster you're most probably right about the power. I don't know what the stats show but most parks east of the Rockies ARE band boxes, inflating power numbers. That's why I'm ALWAYS dubious about bringing in guys like Giles, Ludwick, Moreland, Voit, amongst many others, to provide punch. They usually flop in the marine environment of SD.

I do to, one of the more recent exciting plays was when Mateo scored from first on the hit by Profar down the RF line. It was awesome watching him run; however, he has the same problem a lot of speedy guys have, you cant steal first. 🙂

Not going to lie..for the $$ Mateo is > value..but at the time there was no way m to get him regular playing time in SDP

Wasn’t any way to get Kim regular playing time either when we made him a $7 mil/yr utility guy.
I like Kim…but Mateos’ “breakout” this year does seem to make you think keeping Mateo would have been the better choice.
I like speed that kills….esp. in the playoffs,and we just lost both the guys we had that had it.
