Apparently the Tigers will non tender Matthew Boyd on the coming days.

Might be worth a shot…..esp. if we spend on a bat.

Was thinking the same, although has had some injury issues recently. So..........probably depends on the money he wants.

IF with all the ML teams seeking pitching … bit concerned that DET has to n0n-tender him vs finding a trade (even if just for a ML prospect) … his expected ARB (last ARB) is only about $6-7MM.

Maybe a combo of his injuries last season being more of a concern and basically being ineffective recently (actually was ineffective prior to his “hot” period). Probably signs as a FA on a ML deal with a low base and incentives (1 year).

Not sure the Padres want to use a roster slot and spend money on one year injury risk (they have their own). Maybe if he would sign a MiL deal and look to convert him to a LHRP. Probably could get a better deal from some other team that has a clearer need for  a SP.

Today ought to be a big day for more signings in advance of the Dec 1 CBA end and probably transaction freeze … need some time for physicals and working out contract wording.

METS - Rangers - Blue Jays are going big time. So does that put extra pressure on their NL East - AL West - AL East opponents to make moves to retain competitive balance?

LAA has money … needs pitching in the worst way; SEA was targeting contending and needs more than Frazier … TEX and HOU are strong

PHIL and ATL (maybe even MIA) now have to be worried about the NYM. For ATL the presumption was that Freeman re-signs with the issue being length of a deal … now advantage to Freeman? PHIL came close and has needs.

NYY and BOST have to be more concerned with TOR … and NYY never like to be out covered by the NYM. Money is there. Could NYY be a surprise runner for Freeman?

Given the pitching focus for signings … Robbie Ray is looking to really rake it in.

=====

Looking ahead …post hiring freeze with new CBA … watch the trade market for established SP to explode and yield some very good returns.

Scherzer .... Mets .... $130MM/3 years!!!!!!

ATL - PHIL - MIA may need to open the check books to compete with the "new" METS ... WASH seems out of the mix for years.

Good news for Freeman and from what I hear Castellanos (MIA?).... maybe one of the elite SS FA in PHIL.

Im betting that NYY sign Corey Seager by end of day today.

Freeman will stay in ATL.

And Castellanos is a wildcard at this time. Wants 7-8 years for this contract. Will be 37 after 8 years. Big gamble the bat holds up like JD Martinez.

Hearing Seager is a major target for Texas ... who are also breaking the bank.

Yikes!

The Mets now have $100 mil per season tied up in DeGrom,Scherzer and Cano.

Obviously DeGrom and Scherzer are awesome pitchers...but DeGrom missed half of last season and is 34 and Schrerzer was "fatigued" in the playoffs and is "38".

Then there's Cano.

Thats interesting since they have Kiner-Falefa at SS, and just signed Simien to a 7 year deal, who also plays SS except for last year when he was at 2B. Unless they are going to move Kiner-Falefa back to 3B, put Simien at 2B, and sign Seager for SS.

The thought is that Kiner-Faefa becomes the “super utility” … for now .. then in a few years many think Seager will transition to 3B

Makes more sense for the Rangers to be spending big.

The Mets payroll was $100 mil more than there's "before" all these moves plus the Rangers are in a much easier Division to make up some ground.

The Mets may have a $300 mil payroll and still miss the playoffs.

The Braves,if they sign Freeman, will have basically the same team back "plus" will have Soroka and Acuna back.

That's like signing two HUGE free agents without raising payroll.

Seager to Texas .... $325MM/10 years

Ray to Seattle ...

The big names are being gobbled up for mega money.

LAA better get its act together given the quality of Houston and the upgrades in Texas and Seattle. Stroman must be smiling.
