Even more excited about Groomes outing.

Six scoreless and zero walks.

Groomes started off slowly (2 of 3 hits in 1st inning) but struck out the side to get out of the jam.  Very efficient in innings 2-5, totaling 15 straight outs before giving up his second hit to the second batter in the 6th.  FB in the 86-92 range, but did get up to 93 once; mostly throws sliders and curves and had very good command until the 6th inning, when he ran up some full counts.  If he can get back to where he was a couple of years ago, topping out around 95, then could be in contention for that 5th starter job for the Padres next year.  Trust him a lot more than Weathers.

Dixon  looked solid at the plate, but surprise guy lately has been Martin who had a good June a horrible July and August and now a very good September.  If he stays hot, might give the Chihuahuas enough offense to win the division and get into the playoffs.

Eguy made to great defensive plays back to back - charging in the barehand the ball to first and then making another good fielding play to get the runner at first.  Big game tomorrow to try to put Round Rock out of the title picture as they finish out the season against a very tough OKC team.  If they split, then it will be back at Albuquerque and a good chance to win there.

Big come from behind win by Chihuahuas that keeps them 1 up on OKC heading into their series next week.  Should be a great series!  By the way, despite dominating Round Rock, Round Rock is still not out of it if it wins its remaining games.  Chihuahuas need to do better than split with OKC to keep them in the driver's seat.

Los Angeles Dodgers loaded up the Oklahoma City Dodgers with multiple transactions today and over the weekend (rehab assignments/options/promotions from AA) to strengthen them for this key 6 game series against the Chihuahuas.  It certainly tilted the playing field in OKC's favor and because of that it's going to be very tough for EP to get into the playoffs.  If EP can just split the series, somehow, they'll still have a chance going into the last 3 game series in Albuquerque.

Chihuahuas showed a lot of determination and perseverance coming from 6 down to win today's game.  Keep it up!

A pitching combo that we could see next year in SD carried EP to its second straight win over OKC - Groome and Castillo.  Both were efficient and kept the ball in the park (except for that HR by Outman, who really should be on some major league team).  Dixon's HR and hits by Batten were enough; Dixon's move to help EP win their division was what probably cost our AA team a shot at a championship but at least they won the first half of the season and got into the playoffs.  I'm hoping Dixon gets some more support from other batters and the EP pitching staff can keep they very powerful OKC offense at bay for at least 1 of the next 3 games (hopefully 2 or more!) before the final 3 games of the season.

Big game tonight for a pitchers who is trying to become relevant again in the Padres' plans - Pedro Avila.  Has looked strong in September, pitching the best he has all year.  If he can help nail a Chihuahuas victory tonight, it could be enough to keep the momentum going for a playoff spot.  Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that our offense comes alive and our pitching continues like it did last night.

Brandon Dixon with HR #13!  A 3-run shot to put El Paso up 4-0 after 2 ...

And as I type this, it's now 6-0 after an HR by Hinojosa!

I'd love to see Dixon get a few ABs for the Padres after El Paso wins the AAA crown ... he deserves it!
