I want to see Grisham/Cordero in RF.

Not a big Naylor fan and would like to see him in AAA raking to reestablish his trade value some.

I just don't see Naylor as a regular everyday player for us.....anyone?

So if he is forever a platoon/PH for us he would have more value as a trade piece.

Plus I love the athleticism that OF gives us.

Pham-Margot/Shogo-Grisham/Cordero is very good defensively and on the bases as well.

Re-establish value? Naylors value is at an all time high after a very successful rookie yr.. His projection has him trending way up from there.. He is a very young 5 yrs of control pure hitter.. More valuable to AL team

"more valuable" yes in theory ... but that does not necessary translate to having much trade value given he still is a prospect for 1B/DH. Need to find a team that needs a 1B/DH and would be happy with an unproven prospect in their mind plus be willing to give up anything of quality to get Naylor vs. whatever alternative they may have (or can find). Would some team take him ... yes, upside and minor league options ... would the Padres get much in return, no.

What exactly was successful about his rookie year? The .249 BA? The .315 OBP? The .403 SLG? The 90 OPS+? Those all stink! Even his AAA numbers, especially power wise was not good. He needs to have at least a half season in AAA to prove that he can hit, and more importantly, hit with power because of the positions that he is suited for, 1B and DH.

Fenn is right, he has very little trade value at the moment unless he is an add to package deal.

Have to jump on the dogpile here.  Kirby Yates is worth (at least) a top 100 MLB prospect.  Josh Naylor even with intriguing potential with bat/power & long control is not worth close to that right now.

I didn't mind too much in his early Minors years, but it's an increasing concern that he simply doesn't "get to" his big raw power in games.   Last 4 years (all > 480 PA) starting with 2019:  18, 17, 10, 12 HR.  Improvement, yes, but not enough with the juiced ball in AAA/MLB; Ty France hit 34 between those 2 levels, Luis Urias hit 23.  It's been speculated his, to be kind, "non athletic body" (even though he's a much better athlete than he gets credit for) is the problem & affects his swing when it's not BP.

Josh Naylor isn't Kyle Blanks.  He can't play at 250 when he's under 6'.  He simply has to work his ass off to figure out a way to lose at least 15-20 lbs; especially playing even sporadically in OF.   IF he can do that, I'm in the dwindling fan club that would like to keep him as the backup everyday 1B, and insurance against possibly exploring a Hosmer trade next year.  We have NO ONE in system (please hold Brad Zunica & Michael Curry comments) at 1B.   Naylor actually profiles similar to Hosmer:  More "hitter" than "power"...

... but it's obvious he's on the fringe of the current roster & a very possible trade candidate.  Just don't expect a ton directly in return

Would it benefit the club by moving Naylor back to 1st( his only defensive position), putting him at AAA, and have him as Hosmer's  man in waiting?

That's what I want...even if he still plays some LF to add some versatility to his value.

I'm thinking a full season at El Paso would be good for him either to add trade value or just to play every day and hit.

Now that we've added Pham and Grisham you would think this is a bigger possibility....barring more trades.

Might make sense to have him in AAA at 1B but unless they have a window to deal Hosmer in the next three seasons ... Naylor will be long out of minor league options and claimed off waivers.

Now if the DH arrives sooner than later ... maybe that is a better option.

Pham is around for 2 years ... Myers for 3 years, so no real near term corner options. Then if the better OF options (defensively) in Grisham - Cordero - Trammell and potentially Olivares come into play soon and if some actually can hit they should move ahead of Naylor (after one takes CF from Margot). By the time Pham and Myers are gone ... might even see Córdoba and Ona in the mix.

Naylor’s calling card is his hitting potential ... has to play and prove that hitting potential can fully develop ... will not happen at the ML level in 2020.

Myers will be gone BEFORE April .. Let alone 3 yrs...

All I am going to say about Naylors Power is this ...see Yelich .. Yelich had mediicre power results up until the trade then exploded from the teens to 30 something Bombs +.. Benintendi is going to hit 25-30 inndue time as well.. It seems lefties usually take a bit longer to tfanslate raw power to game power for whatever reason.. With that said if Naylor is here and Myers is here on opening day Naylor is playing over Myers from day 1...

Not a chance. There is no way they are sitting Myers on the bench, making $20M a year, for a 3nd year rookie that CANT play RF.

Naylor and SD is best served starting the season in AAA and learning to hit for power in the game.

What do you mean by "3nd year rookie." Even assuming a typo it is confusing.
