Guys previously optioned (Olivares, Morejon, G. Reyes) would technically be "recalled" if make O.D.

So I have for potential P spots #15 - 17:  Morejon, Perdomo, Bednar, G. Reyes, Gore, Patino.  At least 1 a lock.

HAVE to have a bench CF capable OF.  Along with Myers' balky quad, think it makes Olivares a lock.

So in my mind for position player/bench spots #13-15:  Torrens, Cronenworth, & Naylor.  At least 1 a lock.  With 3 starting INF very SS capable, I don't have JC as a lock.

I'll go on record one last time that I'm not at all a fan of 17 P's... too far away from "real" baseball, and a situation is going to come up in those 15 games multiple times where you wish you had a bench option to do SOMEthing.  Also, you can "roll up" Gore or Patino in 7 days when they'll be under 1.000 year MLB service time (i.e. exchange the 15-16th arm).   If I had to choose last man I'd take Torrens over a P or JC.

My guess is that Bednar goes down, leaving them with 15 pitchers and 15 position players to start the season.  With your 3 top pitchers going the first 3 days, expect to need more of a bench than additional arms.  Can adjust after the Diamondback series.  Agree that Torrens, Cronenworth and Naylor all make the opening day 30 man squad.

If they go with 14 pitchers for flexibility ... then 12 position players (9 starters including DH, 1 reserve catcher, only two bench options with one being Mateo who is out of options) .... not likely to work well.

Just hard to see ... early in the season ... the Padres adding any non-roster player to the active roster baring a string of major injuries and creating a ripple effect of optioning / releasing one of the current players. IF the Padres fall out of contention ... then yes.

Don't see an issue with the bench. Looks at though they are ... for now ... going with Grisham full-time in CF and Profar full-time at 2B with a split at catcher with Hedges / Mejia. Assume France is the DH ... still have a flexible bench of Olivares / Naylor (L) in the OF and Cronenworth (L) / Garcia (L) in the INF. If someone else DHs ... France can fill 3B/1B/2B/reserve catcher. Probably not a lot of PH projected.

Basically they are keeping one more position player than "normal" and now have the DH with a line-up that ... to start the season ... is not going to have platooning. Not sure that 14th position player will see the light of game time in those first two weeks.
