Mets (Lindor is better and they get out of the contract two years earlier), Lindor (full no trade), and Bogaerts (full no trade) all would turn down the deal ... unless the Padres threw in some "incentives"

Probably not with 26 games to play (less by the time he arrives) for the cost of about $3MM. Given his history ... not confident his Aug hot run would continue. More likely Samad Taylor is activated from the IL for an INF/OF backfill for Rengifo. Of course that extra position player on Sep 1 then comes up for grabs but without Rengifo need some back-up INF with Song in AAA (but not hitting) and little else compelling on the 40 man McCoy, Wagner, and Workman makes that last add a question.

Still, possible but a lot may depend on how much the Padres think of a Taylor/Harris (L) platoon in LF (Bowen if needed) vs what the may get out of Robert.

We will know probably today (tomorrow at the latest) and he would be eligible for the playoffs.

Although agree Bogaerts is not worth his contract (and that will be a problem for years) ... but have to look at that as a "sunk cost" and just focus on his performance vs alternatives recognizing that no other team is going to be interested unless the Padres pay down his current deal substantially ... basically Padres will pay one way or the other.

Padres have no real in-house alternative as an everyday SS ... and Bogaerts if nothing else is still a competent defensive player (11th best SS in dWAR) while only being 14% below average offense (he does still get on base via BB).

What it would take to move him probably would hurt the team (and its other priorities) more than keeping him. Just (near term) just live with him ... sit him 8th/9th in the batting order ... and spend resources on future SP.

In EP: Song (L); Workman (L); McCoy; Wagner (L) ... all INF but no hit at this point ... do they opt for INF defense insurance above offense (assuming they can find a better option).

Do they make the Salas call for a potential LHH upgrade (a 3 player rotation of Fermin, Campusano, Salas(L) at C/DH?

Do they IL Sheets and add Salas and an INF option in Song (L) or Workman (L)?

Do they do the above AND claim Robert ... either option Bowen or DFA Hays (who has been a disappointment since signed)?

Next 48 hours could see a lot of movement.
