Looks like I'm gonna make the trip to the Trop to see our Boys play Saturday and Sunday.

Reds waived Eugenio Suarez. Should AJP claim him off waivers?

I read the the A's might waive Jeff MacNeil? Is so, he would be the better way to go?

Suarez cleared waivers and will remain a Red since they did not DFA him.

Not a 2026 issue BUT Darvish was throwing off the mound yesterday (apparently his second workout) testing recovery from his surgery.

However, it may have some influence on his decision of what he does for 2027. Given the Padres probably need for SP in 2027 ... would not rule out a return at age 40 ... at least a try.

Clip I saw looked like he was throwing at full strength.

Long man in BP next season?

Thinking about how competitive Darvish, I think it would be Starting Pitcher or retirement. At least thats my opinion.

Im sure they would rather have him than pay him for another team.

Actually the Padres may need him as a SP in 2027 with only Musgrove (if proves healthy), Vasquez, Pivetta (if Padres pick up his $14MM option and he is healthy), then ???? Sears? Brito? (both out of minor league options in 2027).

To a degree Matsui has been a bit underrated for this season. Consider for Qualified LHRP, Matsui has the 6th best ERA (2.10) and more impressively the BEST "left on base" percentage (91.3%). Yes, not in end of game pressure but yet BEST is BEST.

Now that opens the question as to whether Matsui opts out after the season. His option for 2027 (age 31) is $6.5MM then a player option for 2028 at $7MM. Easy to say he will not get that on the open market but will he do worse? ... probably not with the need for RP across MLB ... and does have a chance to get another guaranteed year or purely more money over two years.

With Morejon a FA ... and some potential for Peralta opting out of one year $4.45MM given some "decent" stats could get him more ... could put the Padres in a bit of a bind for LHRP ... only Hart (assuming the Padres pick-up his Club option at $2.5MM).

Just will add to an interesting November.

Perhaps SD will rework the deal, add on a year or two, add in some additional and try to bring down the AAV at the same time. Maybe 4 years and $18M, and a $4.5M AAV.

Musgrove pitched a very good game in OKC last night, so it appears he is ready for that 1 Sept return from injury status.  Also, don't brush Brito off that easily - having a very decent year at a tough place to pitch.  Maybe he's not in the cards down the stretch in 2026, but could prove very valuable in 2027.
