2025 Padres Season

PreviousPage 67 of 68Next

I know we havent started a DBacks thread, but they will be dangerous this weekend. They area a half a game back before the game finishes tonight, and they could beat the LAD again tonight.

Better not take them to lightly this weekend!

As it stands SD has to take all three from AZ then:

To win the NL West ... LAD have to loose all four remaining games since they have the tie breaker for the playoffs.

To move up and get home field advantage from the Cubs ... Cubs have to lose 3 of their 4 remaining games since SD has the tie breaker for the playoffs. Cubs would have to lose all four if the Padres lose one.

So, there reamains a chance.

Both Cubs and LAD play today, then all three teams are at the same number of games to play (3).

They don't have to carry 13 pitchers. That's just the maximum. Lots of teams go unbalanced with 14 position players in the wildcard round. I think they probably carry the current position player group with McCoy swapped out for Wagner or Campusano. If Morgan's ready to go I think Rodriguez and Hart are probably the odd men out with 2 of the starters in the bullpen. Maybe 1 of them makes it if they leave a starter off to keep them fresh for the divisional round.

Once Laureano goes on the IL ... the active roster of position players drops to 13 with only Campusano (R), Wagner (L), and Ornelas (L) in the minors and eligible for the playoffs.

In a 3 game playoff set might need the full set of 13 pitchers since potentially (likely) they will be making making quick moves with the pen and use them up starting in game 1 ... want max availability for game 3.

Without RHH Laureano the Padres become heavily LHH with 13 position players active ... Iglesias the main RHH option off the bench ... rest of the bench is McCoy, Johnson, Diaz. Not much depth vs any Cubs LHP.

I guess I would lean to activating Campusano who at least potentially can add a needed RHH even if just a PH (option McCoy) and keep a full slate of pitchers to heavily use and mix and match as needed.

Oh good news!

Kyle Tucker expected to be back with the Cubs just in time for the Playoffs!

Yea!!!

The Cubs will be without one of their top starters for at least the first round of the playoffs, as Cade Horton has been placed on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to September 25) due to a non-displaced right rib fracture.

Injury for injury .... Laureano / Horton.

Tucker is back today on Saturday.

Just saw a meme on facebook, SD again this season set an all time record for attendance. 3,437,201 came through the turnstiles this season. Thats 42,434 people per game. I think that I heard that SD had 71 or 72 sell outs this season.

Way to go SD fans, way to go!!

Second overall in attendance and I'd wager SD actually had more butts in the seats than the dodgers did.

I saw a couple of day time week day LA games (they don't have too many of those), you could clearly see there wasn't even 25k in the stands, I could even say It was more like 20k, and yet they reported each time about 35 to 40 thousand, so, they go with tickets sold, not actual attendance, I wonder If we go by the same criteria, or Is It people crossing the gates.

  • Tickets Sold:The primary metric for an MLB announced attendance is the total number of tickets that have been sold, whether individually, in season packages, or as part of corporate sales.
  • Includes All Tickets Distributed:This number also incorporates complimentary tickets given to club staff, family members of players, sponsors, and media.
  • Not a Turnstile Count:Announced attendance does not represent a turnstile count, which would measure the number of people who actually pass through the gates.
