2025 Padres Season

MLBTR is suggesting Padres “interested “ in Duran from Boston for LF.
Big talent and only slightly off a great 2024.
not a bad salary and controlled for a few years … hits / plus defense for LF. Small negatives being a LHH.
expect a premium return in prospects … so will be a long shot. Boston has an elite OF mix and prospects … so could be motivated.

They aren't in a rebuild so will want major league ready players.
Mainly pitching....we don't really have much other than Relief arms.
Maybe a Salas/Estrada/Matsui/Fountain type deal?

What about the Cease, Arraez/Duran suggestion? Hoping that Darvish and King come back in about a month or so, It may work, Duran LF, Sheets 1B, Campy DH.

Campusano is a horrible option for DH, especially for a playoff contender. He is a 4A player! It is a bad idea to plan anything around using Campusano.

Maybe, but still they have 6 other players that should carry the other three without a problem, besides this year, Luis hasn't gotten a lot of chances, probably for a reason, but, still.

I don't think Bos would want two players on expiring contracts.
Plus "we're" trying to win in 2025.
They probably would want mostly controllable pitching....depending on how they feel about these guys I could see Nett,Bergert,Lowe,Lizarragga,Baez and/or other young SP's included.

I get the point of trying to get O'Hearn; however, Eflin is not better than Cease and is also FA after 2025 season as well. Keep Cease and SD will get a pick when Cease declines the QO in the offseason.
No, the point of taking Eflin back is, basically, replacing like for like( Eflin gives you what Cease does) but you get a free LF.
A comp pick doesn't help us this year( when we're in win now mode)

While ERA and WHIP are similar, Eflin is nowhere near what Cease can do. Cease is a borderline Ace, and Eflin is no better than Vasquez or Kolek.
Plus O'Hearn is not really an OFer, barely over 100 games in the OF, and almost 400 games at 1B. He does not solve our LF problem.

Think all well underestimating what it would take to land Duran.
plus Padres are making a deal mid season to win now and will not move any key to the roster. So expect a combo of ML ready pitching and top prospects.
maybe ML ready out of Bergert, Waldron, and RP … prospects from DeVries, Bateman, Mayfield, Tears in some combo
Think Soto lite given Duran’s quality and control.

For perspective, Padres 24 losses is tied with the LAD 24 losses for least in the NL West and only 2 more than the fewest in the NL.
Padres are really in the race … so expect Preller to go all in trade offers for top shelf adds using top 10 type prospects.
