Now with Polanco a NYM, maybe Lindor becomes a more viable trade possibility?
We seem to have what the Mets need( relief pitching!) Just have to figure out how Lindor's salary fits.....any ideas?
I guess if you package Peralta, with either Miller/Estrada/Morejon? Then move Jake and Matsui?

I've been reading that they are putting him at DH due to his diminishing defense.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on December 13, 2025, 10:06 amDennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal's latest says that the Padres and Mets are talking, but not about Lindor. They say that the Mets are interested in Pivetta, Laureano, Miller, Morejon and Estrada. They mention Miller specifically as someone the Mets made a strong push for before we got him.
They bring up Nolan McLean, Brandon Sproat, Jonah Tong, Jonathan Pintaro, Carson Benge, and Jett Williams as pieces we could be interested in.
They also say that nothing is close and frame it more as Preller doing his usual whirlwind level of due diligence. They do seem like a good match for each other. Knowing how Preller operates I'm guessing he's having dozens of conversations and could strike rapidly once he knows what's possible. I wouldn't be surprised if we see multiple trades break quickly at some point down the line.

Quote from fenn68 on December 13, 2025, 10:16 amConsider:
- Lindor (32) ... 6.3 WAR ... contract 6 years / $34MM AAV = $204MM remaining
- Bogaerts (33) ... 3.2 WAR ... contract 8 years / $25.5MM AAV = $204MM remaining (same as Lindor)
So, from a total contract cost sense they are equal but since Lindor is the better player (per WAR) the Padres would need to add to Bogaerts.
Miller (27) ... 2.3 WAR ... under control for 4 more years under arbitration (expected $3.5MM in 2026). Considered the elite closer in the business at a dirt cheap cost. Cost / control / age / quality should have a major appeal to the Mets needing a shut down closer.
If that were the trade ... Padres would only add $5MM to 2026 payroll and then start saving by avoiding what should be significant arbitration increase for Miller in 2027-29.
Actually makes a pretty balanced deal ... depending how the METS view Bogaerts, the level of their desire to move Lindor, and then the willingness of Lindor and/or Bogaerts to waive their no trade clauses.
Of course if it were that simple the deal would be done. IF Preller and Stearns are really discussing this possibility ... might be hung up on "other players" each may want in the deal. My guess would the METS not eager to move Lindor (or just put a much higher value).

Quote from ultratvfan on December 13, 2025, 10:17 amPreller absolutely should not get rid of any of our pitching. That would be downright foolish. However, if Darvish would be willing to waive his NTC and a team would be willing to take an injured Darvish and the rest of his contract, I would be good with that.

Yeh, although don't think either McLean or Benge will be moved by the Mets ... both should impact 2026 with high upside. (Preller may be pushing for at least one of them).
Now Williams (22) SS/2B, AAA, MLB #30 might be in play making it easier to move Cronenworth as his replacement and saving payroll. Then Tong (22) RHSP, AAA/ML, MLB #46 with big FB could impact the 2026 rotation. Sproat (25) RHSP, AAA/ML, next Met prospect (their #5) with also the ability to impact the 2026 rotation.
Could see Preller dangling Miller for all three (and maybe another piece ... think Soto trade) ... 4 years of low cost control of the best closer in the business for prospects might seem like a reasonable price to contend for the playoffs in 2026 (and beyond). If then the Padres moved Cronenworth for a league minimum type ... they will "save" about $15MM combined to add to whatever they have to sign a more impact FA (or two) ... while still holding on Pivetta to stabilize the rotation.

I read somewhere that Lindor and Soto are not getting along. It makes for an interesting subplot.

Quote from fenn68 on December 13, 2025, 12:48 pmAccording to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, Dennis Lin, and Will Sammon, right-hander Nick Pivetta, outfielder Ramon Laureano, and star relievers Mason Miller, Adrian Morejon and Jeremiah Estrada are players of interest for New York.
The Athletic’s reporters made a point of noting that Francisco Lindor, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth weren’t brought up in these negotiations
Not all the above in a deal but to get the wanted salary relief and some decent prospects back from the METS ... Pivetta and Miller seem a must and if needed Laureano.
Prospects in the return aside ... deal those three and clear $30MM for 2026 and can go hunting more effectively on the FA market if that is added to whatever is already available. So, maybe $40-50MM to deploy? Note that Pivetta and Laureano will go FA after 2026, so moving them may be the long run positive.
A lot of reporting on the various permutations of Padres - Mets discussions ... would expect "something" will evolve but no guess on how "big" the deal would be.

Quote from Randy Manese on December 13, 2025, 7:13 pmThere is just too much noise involving both clubs not to have something come out of it. Really like the top Mets prospects but don't see much salary saving by taking on any of their vets. Possible that this would be more than a two team deal. I say a deal or deals get done for the Padres before the end of this coming week.

Quote from fenn68 on December 14, 2025, 7:04 amIn the world of filling space with rumor ...
Mets, Padres, Pirates Interested In Luis Robert
from MLBTradeRumors. (note that the word "interested" is a long way from negotiations on a deal).
I can see where the Mets fit ... they need a CF and have the money to handle Robert's $20MM salary (FA after the season). Despite his "potential" Robert is perpetually injured and basically was a 1 WAR player last season. Mets can take that risk.
CWS don't seem to be interested in dealing (at least that is what they publicly say) ... maybe hoping Robert has a great first half and is a trade chip at the deadline. CWS (a 100 loss team) also may have a coming issues with a grievance on payroll ... projected at a lowly $68MM with $20MM of that being Robert. Listed as a "big market club" no issue on receiving in revenue sharing but trade Robert and drop to a $48MM payroll will create more issues than even now.
Enter the Padres interest / potential logic ... IF the Padres can get Robert with CWS eating all the salary for a pool of "useful" players ... Padres can deal Laureano (who apparently is in play) and shed some salary and in turn sign "better" FA. CWS may be better off on the field (now and in the future) without making their payroll worse.
I guess a deal could be slightly different with CWS eating all of Robert's contract and taking Laureano and maybe someone like Matusi ... that likely would cost the Padres a "better" set of prospects as the CWS take on more payroll.
So, I guess the Padres' interest could be less about Robert's productivity but more about payroll reduction so Preller can pursue upgrades via FA.
No idea the CWS thinking either on Robert or on payroll or on actually trying to win some games.
