Round Rock Express 7, Chihuahuas 5

Key Stats: DH Nick Solak 2-for-3, HR (4), Sac, 3 RBI, CS (2); 1B Will Wagner 2-for-4, HR (1), E; LHP Marco Gonzalez 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 4 BB; LHP Kyle Hart 1.1 IP, 2 H, ER, 2 K; RHP Alek Jacob 0.1 IP, 3 ER, 4 BB
Prospect Watch: El Paso carried a lead into the ninth, but Round Rock rallied to hand the Chihuahuas a loss and drop them back below .500 at home on the season. Given a one-run lead, Alek Jacob couldn’t find the plate as he blew his third save of the year. The righty walked four of the five batters he faced, landing just five of his 23 pitches for strikes. It’s been a rough season for the 27-year-old sidewinder, who has walked 14 and hit four more batters in 20 innings for El Paso. While he got a call-up to bolster the big league pen for one day, he gave up a pair of runs in that outing too. … Nick Solak and Will Wagner provided most of the El Paso offense, collecting the club’s only two-hit games and hitting a home run each as the Chihuahuas plated all of their runs in the fifth inning. Solak got them on the board with a 440 foot blast to left field, his fourth of the year. The 31-year-old big league veteran has an .887 OPS so far this year, slightly ahead of the .851 mark he has put together in more than 2,000 career Triple-A plate appearances. Wagner, acquired at the deadline last year in exchange for Brandon Valenzuela, who has become the Blue Jay’s primary catcher, connected on his first homer of the year two batters later. The left-handed hitter is getting back into form after suffering an oblique strain in spring training. Through 17 games, he’s batting .262/.403/.361.
Frisco RoughRiders 7, Missions 5

Romeo Sanabria has been squaring up baseballs frequently this month. (Photo: Vashaun Newman)
Key Stats: DH Ethan Salas 3-for-5, 2B; 1B Romeo Sanabria 4-for-5, 2B, HR (4), SB (3); RF Tirso Ornelas 2-for-4, 2B, BB, CS (1); RHP Jhony Brito 3.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, K, 3 BB; RHP Clark Candiotti 0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, K, 2 BB; RHP Francis Peña 1.1 IP, H, 2 K, 3 BB
Prospect Watch: The Missions got out to an early 4-0 lead, but then the bats went quiet as Frisco ran past them to claim the victory. In his second appearance at Double-A, Jhony Brito rolled through the first two innings efficiently, but opened both the third and fourth by allowing the first two batters to reach, and was ultimately lifted having thrown 68 pitches to get to one out in the fourth inning. The 28-year-old righty, on his way back from elbow surgery last spring, has only struck out two batters in his 7.1 Texas League innings so far, but has been a ground ball machine. He’s never posted a strikeout rate above 24.1% across a full season, but if he can get back to that range while keeping the ball on the ground, he’ll have a chance to contribute to the big league staff at some point. For now, he’s likely to be optioned to El Paso when he finishes his rehab assignment next month. … Romeo Sanabria continued his stellar month, launching his fourth homer of the season while coming up a triple short of a cycle in a four-hit game. The Miami native, who has continued to make impressive strides in his strength and conditioning, is hitting .348/.444/.522 in May. It’s a significant turn-around from April, when both his on-base and slugging percentages were mired below .300. The 24-year-old will need to get to power more frequently to earn a chance as a first base-only option defensively. … Ethan Salas added three more hits to his ledger, including an RBI double pulled into right field and a nicely executed push bunt to beat the shift for a single in his third trip to the plate. The 19-year-old now has his average back up to .307, good for fifth on the circuit.
Dayton Dragons 5, TinCaps 0
Key Stats: LF Alex McCoy 1-for-4, 2B; 1B Lamar King Jr. 1-for-4; RHP Abraham Parra 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 K, 2 BB, WP, HBP; LHP Javier Chacon 2 IP, H, 4 K, BB, 2 WP; RHP Ty Adcock IP, 2 H, K

Prospect Watch: Fort Wayne managed only three hits on the day as Dayton handed them their third shutout loss of the year. Alex McCoy had the club’s only extra-base hit of the day, a 109.9 mph double to the right-center gap. It was his league-best 15th two-bagger of the season, holding his slugging percentage at .568 for the year. While the big man continues to chase too many pitches, inflating his swinging strike rate to a troubling 17.2%, his exit velocities continue to register in elite ranges. … Javier Chacon keeps racking up strikeouts, punching out four over two scoreless innings of relief. The lefty has struck out a third of the batters he’s faced since joining Fort Wayne at the start of the month. The 23-year-old, who had to toil at Low-A for almost three full years before his first taste of the Midwest League, has allowed a .172 average through his first eight innings with the TinCaps. … Ty Adcock gave up a pair of hits but didn’t allow a run as he continued his rehab assignment with an inning of work. After signing a big league contract with the Padres in the winter, the righty caught the plague of oblique injuries that hit the Peoria Sports Complex in March, pushing back his start to the year. The 29-year-old will look to pitch his way to El Paso in the coming weeks.
Visalia Rawhide 6, Storm 2

Key Stats: C Yoiber Ocopio 2-for-2, HR (3); 1B Kerrington Cross 1-for-3, BB; OF Ryan Wideman 0-for-5, SB (33), assist; RHP Sean Barnett 2 IP, H, 3 K, BB, 2 HBP
Prospect Watch: The host Rawhide plated their first run before recording an out and never trailed in this one as they won their fourth game of the series. The Storm’s biggest contributor wasn’t even in the starting lineup. Catcher Yoiber Ocopio, who entered the game after Ty Harvey got hit flush on the side of his glove by a swing while reaching to receive a pitch and had to leave the game, had a pair of hits, including a solo homer in the eighth inning. Ocopio, 21, has had all three of his homers in his last five games, more than doubling his slugging percentage for the year. … Harvey, who was clearly in pain, immediately left the game after the bat caught him hard enough to take the glove off his left hand. There was no immediate update on his status. The 19-year-old backstop has been a big contributor for the Storm when he’s been in the lineup this year, but he already missed a month with a quad injury. He’ll hope to be back in action quickly. … Truitt Madonna, in the lineup at designated hitter, had a hit to extend his on-base streak to 10 games. The big-bodied catcher has only struck out three times in his last 25 plate appearances as he has made good strides in laying off breaking balls out of the zone. The Seattle native has been learning on the fly after not seeing much high-level pitching in high school.
ACL Padres 4, ACL Brewers 2 (7 innings)
Key Stats: DH Brendan Durfee 1-for-3, HR (1); 3B Dawson Willis 2-for-4, 2B; 1B Isaac Ponce 2-for-3, 2 2B; RHP Lan-Hong Su 2 IP, 2 H, 4 K, 2 BB; RHP Cameron Nohos 3 IP, 2 H, 5 K, 2 BB

Lan-Hong Su has impressed since early spring for the Padres. (Photo: Jerry Espinoza)
Prospect Watch: Lan-Hong Su made his second professional start, and it looked an awful lot like his first. The 19-year-old, who signed out of Taiwain for a significant six-figure signing bonus late last year, tossed two scoreless innings, issuing two walks and striking out four. After giving up a pop fly that found its way to the ground with the high sky and a walk to open the second, the righty, who already shows solid feel for a four-pitch mix, struck out the side to escape damage. Su dealt with a blister issue during extended spring training and is expected to stretch out as the ACL season continues. … Brendan Durfee connected on a homer in the first inning and also drew a walk in his third rehab game. The left-handed slugger, who was sidelined by – you guessed it – an oblique injury early in March, will work his way back into shape before heading out to bolster a full-season lineup. The 24-year-old catcher had a disappointing 2025 campaign in Fort Wayne, hitting just .220/.309/.329 while striking out at a 26% clip. … Dawson Willis is looking to add his name to the list of surprising offensive contributors from last year’s undrafted free agent class. The 22-year-old out of the University of Oklahoma had a pair of hits in four trips to the plate, including his second double in three games. Noted more for his defense on the left side of the infield in college, the Louisiana native has an athletic 6-foot-4 frame that could still add significant power.
