$50 million+ per year, until he's 40+? I thought the Machado and Bogaerts deals were nuts but this????

The Dodgers and OF Michael Conforto have agreed to a one-year, $17 million deal.

With Soto off the market (and Conforto to the LAD for $17MM) ... there are two upper end corner OF still in play (Santander and T. Hernandez) with both projected to exceed $20MM AAV. NYY, BOST, TOR were in the hunt for Soto so all could be in competition for those two (and since they are all in the AL East ... could really boost the cost). Note that I still would not rule out the LAD (looking at the METS as NL competition).
So, how does that impact Profar? Has to be very good for him considering in 2024 he out performed those two (WAR) and is projected to out perform them in 2025 ... yet his projection was "only" a $15MM AAV. Not likely he jumps to the higher level but all this may stabilize he value at the 3-4 year deal with a $15MM AAV ... guessing too rich for the Padres.
Not sure what that means for the Padres in LF in this market. As of now, Ornelas and Lockridge are on the roster and non-roster options are recently signed Gonzalez and Perlaza.

Just for perspective ... current 2025 CBT payrolls per COT's:
- $335MM ... LAD
- $275MM ... PHIL
- $249MM ... NYM (that incudes Soto's number)
- $242MM ... SD
- $232MM ... NYY
So, even before any Padres' adds ... they are over the CBT threshold ($240MM) and sit the 4th highest payroll in MLB sitting among the big market clubs.

Tigers showing interest in Ha-Seong Kim

The Tigers have shown interest in former Padres SS Ha-Seong Kim, according to the Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold. Kim was a target of the Giants before Willy Adames agreed to a deal with San Francisco.
Kim is coming off a tough year ended by an injury, but his excellent glove was complemented by a breakthrough bat in 2023. The Tigers could signal that they're ready to be aggressive after a surprise postseason run by adding Kim, though there is no indication a deal is in the works.
