Merrill is controlled for 5 more seasons (will be a real bargain for that period) … Profar is a FA after the season and pretty sure both sides will want him back in SD but this contract negotiation should be much more difficult that we thought at the start of the season given his production and overall value to the team (plus no replacement in house is a factor).

McCoy is a legit SS defensively … RHH but not a very good hitter.

Maybe this goes with the report that Bogaert does not want to return to SS mid-season and potentially get his defense messed up. On a more negative thought … maybe the Padres see a longer IL stint for Kim and want to ensure defense at SS and concede some offense to get it.

The Dodgers play one of the series in Colorado. Let's hope that works to the Padres advantage. Also, the Dbacks have 1 series left with the Rockies.

Then, The Dodgers and Dbacks play a 4-game series against each other at the end of August. That should be an advantage to the Padres assuming they win their games.

No idea if he gets time now that he is back for a minor league rehab before he is added to the 26 man. Not out of the question that he starts next Tuesday … this is Darvish so potentially not a conventional return.
