Another 4 for 1.
Is Arraez's bat worth it? He's not a glove man, right?
This is not another Frazier type trade is it???
I assume he will DH and keeping our top 5 prospects and all of our young Starters…..I can live with it.
How much longer is Arraez under contract?
How old is he?
Edit: just saw Fenn's post re: arb👍

So we're trading for someone who's a Punch and Judy type, no D, no speed?
I can't imagine he's worth 4 guys???
The number of guys isn’t the issue….just depends on if they ever produce in MLB.
AJ has traded probably 50+ guys in just the last 6-7 years….only a few have really been missed to this point.

I thought Marsee was close? We are woefully short of capable OF's.
Not bothered by Head. Don't think he'll do anything.
Martorella, not sure but would have liked to see him given a chance.
And Go, not sure he's MLB material.

Regarded as one of the best bat to ball hitters in MLB … hits for average, gets on base, minimal HR power but a decent doubles hitter. No base stealing, no defense. Has hit in both MIA and MINN … 2X All-Star and the last two season got MVP votes.
Actually he might just work in PETCO.
Profar seems to be working at lead-off … wonder if they drop Arraez at #2 setting up a LOT of OBP at the top of the order and ahead of the power. Doubt the move Machado out of #4 … so drop Tatis to #3 and Croney to #5 and Bogey to #6? Splits up the LHH and Merrill (who is struggling) back down to maybe #8 or #9?
I can live with the deal since they held on Salas / DeVries and all the prospect pitching.

Quote from fenn68 on May 3, 2024, 7:33 pmArraez is 27.
Given the ages of Darvish, Musgrove, Machado, Cronenworth, and Bogaerts and FA coming in 2026 of Cease and King … Padres are probably focusing on making their strongest runs in 2024 and 2025.
If the Padres are locking in Merrill CF (6 years control) with Tatis in RF. The hole is LF … unless they extend Profar (good chance they do).
The more interesting short term issue will be SS … Kim a FA after 2024 unless he too gets extended.
However, the future is not now … and contending (and winning) in 2024-25 looks to be the objective.

Quote from WindsorUK on May 3, 2024, 7:37 pmCan't imagine they'll go lefty, lefty at 1, 2, especially if Merrill gets pushed back down to 9( which is probably where he belongs. Let him settle in. Leave him at 9 the rest of the year)
Easiest thing is to move Profar back down? Guys hit everywhere in the lineup so far this year so he's more than capable.
Tatis, Arraez, Cronenworth, Machado, Bogaerts, Profar, Campusano, Kim, Merrill?

Quote from MrPadre19 on May 3, 2024, 7:44 pmIt basically cost us Marsee to not wait until the deadline…which also kept other suitors out of the running.

Profar is a switch-hitter so if Merrill goes to #8 they could have Cronenworth at #5 and Arraez at #2 … all LHH would be separated by two RHH … if they care.
I could see Arraez going to lead-off and Profar dropping back to behind Manny … guessing they are not moving Tatis off #2 in that scenario … that would be the least disruptive for the current line-up.

Guessing the saw the need now to boost the line-up and rack up more wins May-July. Probably were convinced that manning the DH with a combo of Rosario, Wade, Pauley, and Azocar was not going to cut it. It also allows a more productive use of the bench as needed in the field slots.
Side since Go was on the 40 man … adding Arraez still keeps the roster at 39. So IF (when) needed easy to add a non-roster player if needed. (And remember Patino is a 60 day IL candidate if they need to add two).

Quote from WindsorUK on May 3, 2024, 7:56 pmAnother thought: Arraez to 2B, Bogaerts back to short.....or Boston???
How much money do Padres eat in sending Xander back east?
Or if they move Xander back to SS, maybe send Kim out? Get something for him before he leaves via FA?
The more I think about Bogaerts......such a dumb signing. Doesn't really fit anywhere defensively, his bat is not as advertised ( maybe his wrist is shot?), crippled us from possibly re-signing Soto.....
Would have been so much easier if Trea Turner had just accepted our offer😁
