2023 Season

If my math is correct we outscored our opponents 84-22 in our wins in June. The offense seems to pile stats up in blowouts, but the consistency hasn't been there.

Well, looking the blowout theme starts July .. let us hope this month there is some legs to the offense.

Really encouraged by the performance of Wacha and Lugo after missing starts due to minor ailments. Their performance going forward may be as key as the offense rebounding.

In the past 30 days, can’t ask much more out of Snell, Musgrove, Wacha, or Lugo as very, very effective SP. Darvish is the only starter of the 5 having some problems (even before the illness).

I've been on a baseball mental health break the last week or so, so I only just now realized that somehow Dansby Swanson made the all star team over Kim... not super egregious, I guess, but also... wtf? Kim is the best defender in MLB, has a superior OPS+, has stolen 10 more bases, and even has extremely similar counting stats.... Definitely feels the result of the Cubs being surprisingly good and the Padres surprisingly bad.

There's also an obvious argument for Tatis to make it over Castellanos or Gurriel, but we all know why he's not there (and I supposed the Phillies have to send somebody)...

Players / teams do run on streaks … hot and cold … just some question as to how long each lasts. Padres started 2023 really cold offensively and really hot pitching net being a losing record.

So, what is current … looking at the last 30 days (27 games) the Padres were 13-14 despite some encouraging stats. Offense (OPS) came in at #8 in MLB while pitching (ERA) came in at #7 in MLB. Combine those two and the records should have been better … except the offense was either very very good or very very bad game by game. RISP was very bad early but in the last couple of weeks is running near the best in MLB.

If the summer weather and players reverting to their norms lead to the current hot streaks continuing … we could see a pretty strong run post All-Star break. At least we see the seeds for success. Will it be enough????????????

In the same vein, what do we make of Grisham’s performance over the past 30 days?

in 89 AB: 247/330/404 (734) … coupled with his elite defense in CF is more than most (including me) would have expected … and quite good for ML CF in the big picture.

Hot streak or has he adjusted his approach enough to sustain this new level? Did notice that a couple of times last weekend he clearly chose to make contact and go opposite field for hits (RBI) as opposed to his former go for broke swings. Still a high K% … so?

230/330/430 would be fine for Grisham hitting in the 9 hole

We sweep the Angels…..win 2 of 3 from the Mets….and then…….the All Star break.

Because Padres.

A .760 OPS would be absolutely awesome and would move him up in the lineup.  I just have no reason to believe he’s capable of that.  Please prove me wrong Grish!

It's about time the NL won an All Star game......right?

I mean...it's crazy that the AL has won so many in a row.
