2023 Season

PreviousPage 95 of 95

Officially eliminated.....wow...the closing of the most disappointing season in our franchises history. We all expected so much more.

And the final month has been such a tease. The way they've played the last 20 or so games, why couldn't they do that at any other point during the year? I'm not taliking 162, just another 20+ game stretch where they played up to their capabilities. So so frustrating .

Still, get 2 more wins...better than losing. I've had enough of those this year.

If it is any consolation … 2023 with 80 wins so far makes this season the 3rd MOST WINS in the past 16 campaigns … 2010 / 90 wins and 2022 / 89 wins are the only two more winning seasons.

Chandler Seagle, #30 draft choice way back in 2017, makes the big league roster!  Not only did he get into a game but he pinch hit for Juan Soto! Hope his family was on hand to see it.  Seagle is hands down the best defensive catcher in the system but has a 6 year minor league batting average of .203 and a .564 OPS.  A nice reward for a loyal organizational player who likely is just here for these last two games of the season.

My guess is this was a gift before his release.

Happens quite often.

Unless he plans to retire … think the Padres would like to keep him around next season … maybe after clearing waivers gets re-signed and goes to AAA as the 2nd catcher. A top line defensive catcher is an asset in helping the pitchers develop. Besides if Sullivan is the ML back-up and Nola is out … who else in AAA for two slots?

Also, his lasting this long in the organization makes me think he may have some future as a minor league coach.

Just another more upbeat observation on 2023 (and 2022).

2023 (82 wins) and 2022 (89 wins) represent the first time since 2006-2007 that the Padres had two consecutive seasons over 80 wins.

2023 (82 wins) is the third most wins in a season bested by 2010 (90) and 2022 (89) since that 2007 era.

Then consider Melvin has just managed the Padres for two years … both winning seasons.
