This is the only reason I still have optimism.
Hitting is contagious and prone to slumps……not really true of pitching and definitely not defense.
Much more likely the offense turns things around than if it were pitching and defense we had issues with.
One 6 game winning streak and the entire season could turn…..

Looks like the Padres let this one slip through the fingers ... Julio Teheran.
He was released off the El Paso roster in late May ... and immediately signed by MILW to the ML roster and inserted as a SP.
6 Starts ... 35.1 innings ... 1.53 ERA / 0.88 WHIP ... 2-2 record
Yeh, small sample size but given some of the marginal players on the 40 man could he have been an asset as a long RP or that 6th SP?

I think, given hindsight, that the team easily would have swapped Weathers for Teheran when he opted out. Given Weathers' controllable nature, it's disappointing we didn't.

Well at least the Padres are not alone in catastrophic under performance ... national media has the METS with the #1 payroll (by a wide margin) in the top media market to focus on. Worse record than the Padres.
Showalter (who many wanted here as manager) is getting blasted for his moves the other night in an ugly loss ... note blasted by their on air game announcers (and unheard of stance by the home team announcers).
Media / fans calling for the firing of Showalter.
Owner Cohen is hold a press conference before today's game to "clear the air". No good outcome. Cohen is a billionaire who is a mega METS fan but does he succumb to the pressure to dump Showalter ... does he fire the announcers for turn-coat actions ... whatever, how does that play with the players (can't be motivating) ...
The press conference if nothing else should be entertaining for the outsiders. Can's see this situation happening with Orsillo/Grant ... Preller ... Siedler.

Well, just getting more interesting ... Padres put one of their better RP Steven Wilson on the 15 day IL ... should take him out until after the All-Star break. Carlton recalled.
If the run to the All-Star game was critical ... things are not setting up all that well.

Would expect (baring setbacks) Wilson and Suarez to be activated after the All-Star break ... will that be too late? Cosgrove COULD be back around July 1-2 (he is rehabbing in AZ).
