Easy to over react to short term results but how will they consider the history / potential on each of these pitchers.

My plan would be Yu/Snell/Musgrove/Wacha/Weathers starting... then Martinez RHP/Lugo LHP.. rotating BP/SP #6... Lets face it Wacha/Lugo and Martinez are not built up to go >120IP as SP in 2023... so giving 2 a break in BP and rotating them in to start will serve the team best.. Wacha more of a history issue with IP..Lugo and Martinez more of a step up in IP from 2022 to this yr...

BoMel can also have a quicker hook on Snell/Wacha/Weathers should they struggle in a start or 3...

The odd man out based on keeping the starters on a rotation with an extra day rest seems to be initially Weathers who pitched on Monday and would have been scheduled for next Sunday if not for Musgrove being inserted and Darvish being pushed back.

Might see Weathers in relief on Sat or Sun (he would be rested) then at some point later in May return to starting after decisions are made on Martinez, Lugo, and Wacha (two will likely to the pen or elsewhere as a 5 man rotation begins with the off days) … the relief time will allow of re-inserting Weathers wherever in the rotation needs the add.

Obviously Padres saw something they didn't like.. and now EVERY outing he gets lit up.. I mean has he had an outing this year without surrendering a run or multiple runs.. awful

Saturday? Musgrove is activated and likely moves Martinez to the pen to assume the multi-inning relief role that Crismatt has. Plus it appears that Honeywell is also capable of doing multi-innings (although looking good in later high leverage situations).

Once they go to 5 SP either Weathers,  Wacha or Lugo drop to the pen as multi-inning options … really minimizing the value of Crismatt.

So, likely coming soon the DFA of Crismatt.

(also possible that it is Thursday to create a 40 man slot for Tatis … with a temp call-up of any other pitcher on the 40 in AAA until Musgrove is added on Saturday. That would “save” having to DFA two 40 man roster players if Crismatt is going to be DFA anyway)

Very good chance it could matter....although I see the Braves winning their Division so if that's the case it will only matter if we both win our Divisions and end up with the same record.But it could also end up a Wild Card factor.

A season series win vs the 14-4 Braves this early .. despite of how bad we are playing would be HUGE.. we need these season series wins vs 8 or 9 teams (the more the marrier) with 6 Playoff spots.. Lets Win this one.. Atlanta 11-1 vs the MLB 3-3 vs SDP in 2023 ..

Out for some time with injury … but this is his comeback year … only 28 … league minimum … 6 years control. He is delivering with a 1.46 ERA / 1.14 WHIP in 8 appearances.

Given his limited work over the past few years … should be strategically used out of the pen in 2023 (maybe 80-100 innings) BUT given the uncertainty of the SP in 2024 could we see him move into the rotation in 2024? He was an elite prospect as a SP coming up in the minors.

Padres would be happy with an effective low cost SP under control for 6 years to help balance out the expensive players.
