Hader, Pomeranz and Garcia are all likely gone in 2024 (or before!) so if there is confidence in others in the bullpen to put them in high leverage situations then you have to throw them out there and see if they can do it while you still have your elite pieces. Suarez is expected to move up to Hader's spot, but are Castillo, Wilson and others ready to make their marks or do we go RP surfing like we have in the past. RP's, as a group, are mercurial so how much of a gamble is it to trade one of your higher leverage RP for a decent prospect?
My preference is to take a good offer for a RP because you are likely to find another one who is just as good right around the corner. For this reason, don't think guys like Hill and Crismatt are safe from being traded. We have a lot of good arms in the system who may not have that 3rd pitch to continue to develop into a starter, so I'm not so reluctant to trade some of these veterans (but not all!) if necessary to better the team in the future. With injuries and time on the IL, there should be ample opportunities to see what we have in the minors as future high leverage pieces.

Hope the Padres follow the Texas Rangers' lead and file for separation from Diamond Sports. See a great opportunity to reap huge media rights for a team that has both local (US) and international following. This would given Seidler even more ammunition to reload the Padres every year into a perennial World Series contender.

Too early to make that call but leaning heavily on Azocar sticking with the ML club. Plus don't rule out an injury to one of the OF over the next month.
Still have to see Engel and Dahl in the remaining ST games against more of the ML regulars gearing up for the start of the season ... once their levels rise will Engel and Dahl's performance fade? We can hope for them rekindling their deep pasts but recent past not as encouraging.
If they release either ... not much of a financial hit so probably it will be base purely on performance.

I don't think the Padres bullpen is settled enough to risk trading any of the arms. We may like to think some of these guys will develop ... some might ... just don't know who yet. Keep the pen with the best options to win in 2023. Actually, except Hader, not sure any to the tradable pieces would give the Padres much of a quality return.

My understanding is that until Diamond actually misses a payment to the Padres (they have not yet) ... the Padres are locked into the contract. That might come relatively soon though since I believe Diamond wanted to re-negotiate (think lower payment). I think Diamond wanted to come out of bankruptcy with having debt reduced (creditors getting less) but still operate ... should be some intense negotiation among the parties and the bankruptcy judge.
I would not be surprised if Siedler pushes for a full break and tries to go the route of establishing his own network like the NYY, LAD, BOST and a few others ... maybe with some bridge carry in 2023 with MLB.TV or a local station.

Saw a note (no confirmation) the Jose Castillo went down with a sore shoulder on March 3rd ... and IL candidate to begin the season. Tie that with Musgrove, likely Morejon and Pomeranz all IL candidates and the 13 man ML staff might end up with a surprise. They have already optioned Avila, Baez, Cosgrove, and Filipe (but could bring one back) and Lopez has looked terrible.
Looking good for both Groome and Weathers as LHP.

A somewhat under the radar non-roster RP that might surprise is M. Lugo. He was converted to a RP last year and was coming on strong. I was surprised he was not protected in Rule 5 (and was not selected) ... he has the stuff slider and a 95 MPH FB.
This spring before today 5 games / 5 innings ... 0.00 ERA / 0.60 WHIP ... today one perfect inning with 2 Ks. If he has conquered his control ... he could be a real surprise.

Another possible surprise ... most have conceded the 2nd catcher to Campusano with Severino insurance in AAA. However this spring ... Campusano got sidelined with a "minor muscle injury" ... out for some game but even on his return in "A" games only a DH appearance ... Severino has been getting the bulk of playing time behind Nola.
Severino has the ML experience ... Campusano has a minor league option. Could we see a flip flop on opening day? ST:
Campusano ... 16 AB: 125/222/313
Severino ... 22 AB: 227/292/324
Small sample sizes but who would hit the ground running on opening day and better cover the first weeks with only one off day?
