I posted something about AJP "rejecting" offers for Campy about 6 weeks ago.. cant find it now.. but it was a mlbtraderumors piece..that said something to the effect "many have tried unsuccessfully to aquire Campusano from Padres".. so maybe more value there vs what we think

That would then also imply Campy has more value to AJ than we think.

If that's all true then it makes sense that we would let Alfaro go and run with Nola/Campy.

Unless of course Campy ends up being the key to a trade AJ can't resist in the end.

So basically...we have no idea what he's gonna do

Given the Padres sit with Nola (3 years) and Alfaro (1 year) then a long gap to the next generation … keeping Campusano (and his upside, control, low cost) is worth a lot to the Padres future … so Preller’s price tag on him will be very high.

Tough career for McKay … just plagued with injuries and now TJ in September and will miss 2023 (at age 27).

He should get a minor league deal from someone but in 2023 not as a pitcher … but potentially (depending on TJ recovery) as a minor league DH. Think that would make him a minor league FA after 2023. Then in 2024 (if he resigns or is added to a 40 man) make the call pitching or hitting.

Next generation C is not even signed yet.. Ethan Salas #1 International signing .coming to SDP in January.. he is what 17 yrs old ..probably 5 yrs away if everything goes well.. King Jr (22 draft) is 4 to 5 yrs away as well... so yes the gap is pretty big ...

Why I think Campy holds a lot of value..if he can be at least 1/2 the equation for 4-5yrs (or we get a controllable guy like Kirk) then we have our C situation under control for 1/2 a decade til the babies are ready..
