Listening to a very depressing assessment of the Red Sox for 2023. Remember they were in last place in the AL East last season … gone are Bogaerts, Martinez, and now Story … middle INF is down to Hernandez … C is down to a veteran part timer in McGuire … SP is assessed as “thin” … Devers will have zero protection in the line-up.

They may end up challenging OAK for the worst in the AL. Not a scenario where they would seek a Kim as a two year filler. More likely they scrounge around the remaining FA on one year deals (Andrus?)

Yes, going to be a bleak year for the Sox. And Andrus makes sense for them, one year commitment and the do have a very good middle INF prospect on the way.

Although, did read an article that made some sense for Kim to BOS. Many say that Story is better fit for 2B, even if his arm bounces back, and their stud prospect is two years out, so the article was mentioning how Kim, with two years of control would be a good bridge to the prospect.

So there are tangibles that make sense for BOS, just whether or not BOS has the right pieces for SD and their needs.....SP. If Preller thinks that one of the mentioned, Murphy, Walter, Houck etc have the stuff that he is looking for, then pull the trigger. If not, then hold onto Kim and find a better fit for SD needs, SP.

I still think that ATL is the better fit for Kim, I dont see how ATL can go into the season trusting a rookie to SS. I know they produce good prospects, and they have a lot of guys signed long term, so the nucleus will be together for awhile, just dont think you waste chances. And they may not have Fried for much longer.

Kyle Garlick DFA by Twins

.252 .301 .538 .839... career vs Lefties

Not the greatest fielder but can spell or even Start 1st 20 when a lefty SP starts.. has pop.. could be a Righty compliment to Carp.. DH a bit.. a little more versatile vs Nelson Cruz and a hell of a lot cheaper...  is he greater or more valuable to us than the low hanging fruit #40 #26 on our roster?? Only AJP knows..

Boston Kim or no Kim still a good trade partner with their excess of #3/#4 types even if a bit green...

Quick ? Say Kim is traded ..who plays 2B..if Jake who plays 1B?.. Does Rosario get 1st Crack at it (2B) ?

To quote MLBTR "There’s little doubting that Garlick can hit left-handed pitching, but his lengthy list of injuries, combined with sub-par defensive ratings in the outfield corners, have limited his utility as well."

So it sounds as if he is not that more versatile than Cruz, cheaper yes, but more valuable to SD? Probably not,

No need for a one dimensional COF that cant stay healthy.

Could we get lucky during ST or by opening day and pick up a DFAd SP or BP arm with SP experience.. AJP has a history of picking some good/great arms towards the start of a season..as rosters get set.. even as early as last season we picked up Rogers and Manea.. both were great 1st 60 games.. and Sean 1st 90 or so.. didn't give up much for Sean either.. the one factor present this yr vs last is the $$ factor..but by the same token could we pick up a SP for POMZ after he shows healthy and all signs Velo etc..show =/+ ???

Maybe the right approach..lots of ? Beyond SP3..but 2/$32 option for Martinez shows Niebla/AJP see him as a solid SP for the next 3 yrs.. and perhaps we are "under" valuing Groome (AJP gave up $39 mil and specs for him).. so maybe let the kids Pitch in ST and re-evaluate midway through or towards opening day...

Do we know who is playing (complete list) in WBC from Padres?

I got Suarez/Nick Martinez/Yu/Soto/Manny/Xander...

Is Kim ? Others?

Cant count on ST performance too much, how many times have we seen ST studs, only then to falter when the real bullets start to fly.

Preller does have a history of trades at the end of ST, or right before Opening Day, so there is always a chance.

I could see a last minute trade at the end of ST depending on how Pomeranz is throwing.

Maybe a Montas for Pomeranz trade? The money is close, Pomeranz a little more, and Montas maybe Sonny Gray II, cant handle the NY thing, and needs a change of scenery to be top level. Pomeranz has pitched in BOS, so should be a better candidate to handle the East Coast vibe they have out there. That could work for both teams.

Kim for a SP ..Mancini to 1B/Carp ...could work

I dont see how Twins trade Gray.. they are in it to win it ... NYY yes as they are deep in SP and Pomz vs Montas seems pretty fair for both.. both are a bit of an injury risk as well..and both address needs for each team..

But with that said I still think a SP with control beyond 2023..even if it's just 23 and 24 is almost a must..at this point ..unless we extend Yu soon

There is no way that Mancini has any power in Petco. He is a product of homer friendly Camden Yards. He didnt have any power in Minute Maid with that short LF porch, why would you think he would do well in SD.

Better off with Voit and his butcher defense at 1B than Mancini.

Keep thinking with arb decisions incoming by Sunday..we may see a penny pinching team like Brewers make a deal..Burnes/Woodruff are both proj just under $12mil and Lauer around $5.2 mil.. not saying the 1st 2 BUT maybe Lauer for Wethers + Rosario + a golden ticket like SS Rojas..

Brewers are very good at developing P and if they like Wethers mid 90's velo and think secondary can be tweaked (like Lauer was) maybe this works for both sides..

We likely would have to move Garcia $3.5.. who even at his age should have tremendous trade value as he can close/set up and at $3.5 he fits with any of the 30 teams in that role... with Hader/Suarez ..Garcia is valuable at 7th..but Pomz and/or Hill/Wilson could handle that if not Lugo or others..Deal from BP depth..and get a useful piece for OF/or other
