For league minimum, wonder if it would be worth the roster spot to see if Moose could regain some of his magic at the plate, and provide SD with another LH bat. Although he is limited to playing in the dirt, so doesnt really help with our OF issue.
However, I dont really see him as any different than Carpenter, who outperformed Moose last season. So maybe not worth the spot, even for league minimum.
I have seen tons of trade suggestions recently that have the Padres trading either Kim or Crone. The question I have is do we have any non-replacement level players on the roster to cover their starting position? I am not seeing it.
Moustakas might be useful if we make a trade. Otherwise I don't see it happening.

In a reduce role.. Voit would give us pop off the bench ..like Alfaro.. he doesn't have to play 1B but 20x or so ..DH for 65.. with Carpenter DH 65 as well and playing 30 in LF/1B... Crone 1B most of the time ..2B vs hard RHP vs Kim so 25-30%.of the time.. not asking for Voit to be clean up hitter he was last yr.. just 6th/7th.. give us 15-20 bombs 450PAs and Remember 2022 was a dead ball yr.. supposedly we juicing balls in 2023.. and ending the shifts..so good chance Voit benefits from that

Would you do a Kirk for Lesko, Mazur, and Merrill trade?
You realize Kirk is one of the top catchers in the league ... at league minimum ... under control for four years ... penciled in as the clean-up hitter ... Toronto is in the playoff hunt ... Kirk is going nowhere for less the a current impact add.
Actually shift down to Jansen who is penciled in as the DH in the #6 hole ... 2 years control ... $3.7MM in arb ... would be the guy they deal for some immediate support ... not for a series of long term prospects.
To that end ... if Padres really want an upgraded second catcher ... trade for Jansen by dealing Cronenworth (3 years control and arb $4.4MM) and they can bump Merrifield who has seen his best day out of the 2B slot.
Cronenworth's extra year pays for the fact that catcher is a premium position and Jansen has a lower salary.
Anything less, TOR hangs up.

.247 .312 .455 .767... Voit vs RHP in 2022.. he is basically a LHB disguised as a RHB.. he hits same side much much better both in 2022 and for his career where he has a decent low mid .800 OPS vs RHP... for cheap $$ and a reduced role I would ride with Voit on the bench/DH/1B/PH type ...and 2022 was the worst yr of his career.. remember even Manny struggled to adjust to Petco and SD at 1st.. 2nd time through would be > for Voit as he would have some history vs NL arms he hadn't faced before

Currently, out of our proposed 13 position players, only Carpenter, Crone, Grisham, and Soto are LHH. So the best we can do, is 4 LHH in a line up, and then nothing LH left on the bench. So I still think that we need at least 1 more LHH.
I doubt that we can find a LH bat that is going to be worthy of starting on this team, leaving to fill that spot via bench player. Dominic Smith seems worth a flier to me, since he can handle 1B and LF. Jonathan Villar could be a good option, SH for both INF and OF, and a good stolen base record for his career, Gamel could be an inexpensive option as an OF only, with decent OPS+.
I guess if healthy and the right price, Conforto would be the best option. Seems his market is moving slow, typical Boras move.

Not that I'm 100% for bringing Voit back but to be fair he also had that bicep issue that messed with his swing mechanics earlier in the year.

In typical Myers form he signed with the Reds on 12/22... the same day 12/22 he became a Padre many seasons ago.. Did he planned this? 💯 so Wil to do it

For = $$ I'd take Voit over Smith and definetely Voit + Naquin ..or Voit + Grossman over others.. Comforto ?? Health makes me nervous ..althoughbif Healthy he might have been the #2 OF in FA .. not an issue if Tatis didn't have a shoulder/wrist/inactivity issue already.. But one such guys is enough of a risk already for a contending team.. like Myers Comforto should go to Pitt/Cincy/Colorado or the like re-establish value and get traded to a contender at the deadline ... thats what I would do on a 1yr/$10 mil show me deal with an option

The Blue Jays are trying to compete in 2023. They do not want to trade Kirk or Moreno for anything other than a fortune. They are hoping to still get a big return out of Jansen, but he is not worth it. Jansen had, by far, his best year ever this year with an OPS+ of 141. However, his lifetime OPS+ is 98. Nola's lifetime OPS+ is 106. We already have the better offensive catcher. Nola's pop-time is slower than Jansen's...by 3/100ths of a second. Both middle of the pack. Not a benefit. So why would we trade for him? We need starting pitchers, not more average catchers.

Dennis Linn has Dahl on the bench he is LHH .. so is Preston Tucker .. not that I expect either to make the 26.. But??? As of right now we have 5 LHH and 8 RHH which in baseball is fairly good balance
