NYY could replenish our upper minors with 2 of their top 5 specs and SP/BP arm Schdmit.... would C Wells + OF Pereira + Schdmit be enough to entice AJP to trade Kim.. Wells and Pereira ETA'S are 2023.. NYY #4 and #5 specs .. + a P that at one point was top 100.. but fell off.. still has good numbers in NYY in limited MLB exposure ..would be in the mix for #5/#6 SP for us ...

 

Atlanta moved some of the arms I wanted to Oak.. not sure there is a match with them ..unless we want a real old C +

ATL and NYY have ML ready pitchers in Anderson and Schmidt maybe not in one for one deals but given the SP situation in 2023 and the future … might be a good get.

MINN has to be somewhere in play with projected LHH starters in Arraez (1B), Gordon (2B), Gallo (LF), Kepler (RF), Kiriloff (DH) and pushed down to AAA Larnach (L) and a couple of others. Plus Polanco (SS) is a switch hitter. Add that have a number of RHH OF. In my view Kim is more valuable than any of them one on one so maybe need to structure a “bigger” deal to get two of the hitters while throwing in some RP to MINN.

Jansen will be a hard get since he is penciled in as the starting DH/C … and they are primarily looking for more pitching and will need a DH replacement. It is the pitching that will be the hang-up. So a 3 way deal with ATL makes the most sense (doubt TOR and NYY will deal).

MINN will not give two starters so Arraez and Larnach for Kim and Crismatt (or a AAA RP)? Larnach is primarily a LHH LF/RF and former quality prospect and can clearly DH. Arraez to 1B (defense at 2B in question) but provides a plus lead off hitter ahead of the big four.

How about a little out of the box thinking, and look to NYY for Kim yes, but along with Schimdt, what about getting Aaron Hicks instead of Pereira, which I dont know if they would include.

I know, not Hicks, but after listening to a XM broadcast today, I think Hicks, like Sonny Gray, is just not a NY guy. His 2022 road numbers were very respectable road BA .256 OBP .358, and SLG .374 for an OPS of .732, and he is only $10M AAV per year, and controllable through 2025, and a team option for 2026. He is a SH, and a CFer, and would allow the trade of Grisham as well. Or maybe the inclusion of Grisham, would allow a larger deal.

NYY gets Kim, Grisham, and Pomeranz. SD gets Hicks, Pereira, Schmidt, and one more mid level prospect.

SD saves $10M this season as Pom and Hicks wash, and Grisham and Kim would equal about $10M in savings. NYY goes up $10M, but gets a GG CFer, an almost GG SS, and high end LHRP if healthy. Grisham could really take advantage of the short right field porch in NY.
