Someone help me out with the Christian Vazquez rumors.

Does he really move the needle enough over Nola to make the move?

OPS+ Nola - 91; Vazquez - 99.

Vazquez has the better arm and pop time from what I understand as well, controlling the running game will be important this season. And I am not ready to make a WS run with relying on Campusano a lot, so Vazquez (with 2 WS championships, including one in BOS with X) probably goes a long ways.

I get that Vazquez is better...but depending on the cost....is he better "enough"?

I'm guessing if AJ really is on Vazquez he must have an idea of what he's gonna do with either Nola or Campy.

Campy in AAA is a waste...trade value likely to drop more unless he just dominates.

It's time to play him or trade him if we add another Catcher he needs to be traded.

Campy will either be C#2.. DH..or 1B OR Traded no way in God's green earth he goes back to AAA

Gallo is another Boras client and when your nickname is Pico de Gallo, he's a lock for San Diego!  Just kidding, but if we can just get that average to .215 he still hits the ball with excellent velocity and very hard around 50% of the time.  Problem is he is one of the 3 certain outcomes - HR, K, or BB - a majority of the time.   If he wants a contract over 6M, then move on.

I agree with everything you just said, and still would be nervous about relying on Gallo this season. Just dont know what the bat is going to do this season.

I wonder if one of Contreras/D'Arnaud were included in the deal?

If not...I'd rather have one of them than Vazquez.

This trade as reported, is not making much sense to me. OAK gives up Murphy to receive a 35 year old C, Esteury Ruiz, and ATLs #6 RHP prospect according to MLB.com, Freddy Tarnok. Tarnok is not even in MLB.com top ten RHP, nor there top 100 prospects.

ATL shipped out Contreras in the deal, but he went to MIL.

Why didnt OAK want Contreras?? A 25 year old C, that hit .278/.354/.506/860 OPS, and 138 OPS+ with 20 HRs last season. Contreras doesnt even reach arb until 2025. This is basically Ruiz for Contreras at this moment, Ruiz is not that good.

There must be some other pieces here that are not reported yet?

He is probably shooting for a multi-year deal with an AAV in excess of $10MM ... and considering Boras is his agent should get close.

Not where I would put my money on a team that really does not need a 3 outcome power hitter with some concern about fading skills (even though young).

I will stick with seeking a high OBP guy to keep the line moving and adding pressure to the pitchers with men on base for the "BIG FOUR". Someone who can force the starter to pitch extra pitches and worry about runners will wear them down sooner for the rest of the line-up to take him out.

Agree there has to be more.

As for Oak not wanting Contreras ... OAK has two of the top catching prospects ML ready and that is what prompted the trade of Murphy.

OAK still seems to need to get more ... and MILW sure seems to need to give more. If I have it right MILW got Contreras for Pina (35 year old catcher) and Ruiz (who we know has limitations).

OAK in reality got from ATL two pitchers in Tarnok and Muller ... Muller ATL's #1, Tarnok ATL's #6 and the two from MILW. Decent but not elite and would have expected on in any return to be a Top 100 type.

That NL East Division is gonna be some kind of 3 team race......I feel sorry for the Marlins.

Even if the get better then next couple years they may never get close to the 3 behemoths at the top of the Division.

Somethings off.

According to Rosenthal the Brrewers get Contreras,& Yeager from Atl and Payamps from Oak and only gave up Ruiz?

Speed is going to be a huge asset going forward with the new rules and larger bases...but this still can't be right.

The Blue Jays have agreed to a three-year contract with free-agent righty Chris Bassitt, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The Meister Sports client will be guaranteed $63MM on the deal.

===========================

MLBTR had him at $60MM for 3 years ... apparently he could not get a buyer for 4 years but a $21MM AAV is good for a guy who will be 34 next season.

If as most expect Eovaldi returns to BOST ... and Rodon is ticketed for the big spenders in SF, LAD, NYY ... the SP corp has really thinned out ... and the few remaining can keep the bids up for all the other teams needing SP. Not seeing any bargains coming soon.
