Sure Gallo has the much better slug percentage, but for the price tag of $8-10M, dont think Gallo moves the needle for SD at all.

I would go Brantley over Gallo, and Benintendi over Brantley, especially with Benintendi's age, turning 29 during the 2023 season, he is an OFer that help the team for a few seasons.

Where does Beni play? He is making starter money so if Beni is the guy does he go LF and Tatis CF or does Beni play CF ?

Only position currently open at this moment is DH.. and Bench spots.. assuming Jake 1B and Kim 2B...  as such Brantley (2/$20?) Might be a better fit as DH/COF backup.. vs Beni who is an everyday OFer and likely around 5/$75

It depends if we add a C/DH type as well ..even Vazquez .270ish BA would be a solid #6.. At this time, I would lead off Tatis, Grisham, Machado, Soto, X, #6 TBD, Nola, Kim, Crone.

I think Grisham could excel in the two spot next season. Tatis on a lot, no shift, opens a big hole for Grisham. He can bunt really well, and with Machado behind him, and Tatis on base, should some good pitches to hit. Plus he has the speed to get Machado more fastballs as well. Batting Crone 9th, gives him an excellent chance to extend the inning and be on base for Tatis. Plus Nola and Kim have much better career numbers in 7 & 8 than they do in the 9 spot.

Unless we sign Benintendi, then I line him up in the two spot. Brantley would be my #6 hitter if we sign him.

As I said before ... just 13 pitchers on the active roster and need a plus bullpen too ... adding a 2nd ML starter effectively bumps someone and if of any quality will not sign to be a swing man.

Probably should go for the best SP for the 5th slot add then see what they have in AAA for the needed call-up for injury ... or wait until mid-season for a trade.

I think that could work, although Smith is horrible in the OF, and we have much better options for LF defense wise, so he doesnt need to be in the grass. So if we were to go that direction, Myers could easily be a COF/1B,/DH, but Smith needs to play 1B or DH only.

In a DREAM scene ... we go into the season with Teheran/Groome type 5th/6th..Avila/Knher/Wethers support with a couple starts each... and we hope LAA suck hard and Othani becomes our ACE/DH for the 2nd half.... 😆 🤣

I would add the issue of having a very poor bench beyond the starting eight ... so the first add has to be versatile and with Tatis out for 20 games (with injury concerns) someone who can handle the OF. So, ideally a good hitter that can rotate through DH.

However, the bench behind that 9th hitter is lacking ... so a second versatile add that can cover multiple slots and not force the regulars to move around ... plus the regulars are geared to play everyday but injuries / rest will necessitate back-fill ... so someone who can handle riding the bench and keep sharp (sounds line a veteran player).

Siedler will need to pony up a lot more money to get that 5th SP ... that 9th starting bat ... that bench upgrade ... likely $25-30MM if really want quality out of the remaining FA. Hard to get that done and spend more to upgrade the other positions.

The Smith / Myers does appeal as a lower cost option but maybe not all that low.

Did see in the MLBTR piece on the Tigers that they were in on Myers but not considered favorites ... suggesting that he has other suitors and probably the Tigers were low balling. So, maybe Myers has a better market than we were thinking (that usually means a higher contract).

No idea on Smith's market.
