My understanding is that … if optioned … a player on the 40 man can be activated for a playoff roster. Also, remember that one pitcher currently active has to be removed anyway to get back to 13 pitchers.
They may de-activate Manaea for the first playoff series but not likely to DFA him just to make room for an unproven rookie and one start. The organization’s credibility with the team would be crushed with such a move.
I would expect the go with Manaea or a bullpen day before rocking the boat by adding Groome for one start at this late date.
Also, should be thinking about the Padres recalling Crismatt (very good for most of the season and “rested” a bit in EP) … maybe for the playoffs, maybe sooner.

Yeah if that's the case.. Groome up to Start (after clinch) Morejon down.. then Groome down Cristmat up.. or something like that..
TWO of Stanmen/Cristmat/Manea/Morejon will not make the post season WC roster...they can be rotated in and out every series.. ride the hot arms

Probable that Manaea is off the Wild Card roster (don’t need a 5th SP who is not a RP) and then may depend on who they are playing … dropping a LHP (Morejon) or a RHP (Crismatt) …just a gut feeling the keep Stammen around in what should be his farewell tour.

I think Clev is 💯 he is pretty good/great for 1 to 3 innings.. and did come out of the BP a few times this yr

Just for the record ...
Sept. 27: IF/OF Brandon Dixon selected from Triple-A El Paso; OF Luis Liberato designated for assignment
Dixon has raked in the Minors all year, posting an absurd .374/.442/.823 slash line between Double-A and Triple-A. Now, he'll look to play himself into something of a pinch-hit/bench role with the Padres. The righty-hitting Dixon, who would be eligible for the postseason roster in place of a player on the 60-day IL, can play both infield and outfield corners.
"I haven't had a set position for about five years, so I'm guessing it's going to be similar," Dixon said. "Outfield, infield, whatever they need, I'll just be ready."
Dixon, who owns a .228 career batting average across 558 plate appearances with Cincinnati and Detroit, was a childhood Padres fan, born in La Jolla.
"To be wearing the uniform now, it's unreal," Dixon said.

Heard a comment about the LAD have the best run differential since the NYY's murders row of the 1920s ... +325! Next closest is the NYY at +235 and that really is not "close". LAD already have set a franchise record for wins ... and counting.
Should the Padres petition to move to the AL West ... oh, that is where HOUSTON dominates the Division and AL. Is there a spot in the Central (either league) with some creative geography?

How about we play them in rd 2 and eliminate these bums..record or no record .. series wins or no series wins
If Sean 14.49 ERA vs LAD in 2022..can go 4 IP and pitch to a 2.25ERA clip vs LAD last night.. so can the Padres END them in 2022 post season...YU havent seen nothing yet!
