2022 Season

PreviousPage 87 of 87

I think when it comes to SS defense between Kim and Tatis, the perfect example could be Harpers bloop hit in the 2nd inning Wednesday. I personally think that Tatis gets to that ball, while it barely flew over Kims glove and lead to a hit for Harper.

And then the other way I look at the two of them is comparing the "two styles" of golfers, the "Wild Bill" and the "Steady Eddie". Tatis is more like the Wild Bill, can pull some amazing shots out of his "arse" and then on the tee shot, jack one 1o miles OB. Where as Kim is more like the Steady Eddy, has the ability to make some thrilling shots/plays, but is the more steady force.

I think if you ask the pitching staff, they would take the Steady Eddie over the Wild Bill everyday.

I think if Tatis didn't go through that 2 month stretch last year where he had trouble with his throws we wouldn't even be discussing this.

Take 6-8 bad throws off his resume' and it looks a lot different.

He also had the issues in 2019. 2019-18 errors. 2020-3 errors in a shortened season, so maybe 6 to 8 over a regular season. And then in 2021-21 errors. So as I said, he is very up and down. And when the errors come, they come in bunches. Wild Bill.

Compared to Kim, 2021-4 errors (only 35 games so compares to Tatis 2020), and 2022-9 errors. Steady Eddie.

So the best comparison is Tatis 2021 with 21 errors to Kims 2022 season with 9 errors. Big difference.

Plus, Tatis has put himself in this position with his youthful stupidity and selfish choices. So for me its an easy decision, Tatis to the OF as long as Kim is in SD.

Yes this is what I was referring too.

The first 2 months of 2021 he had the yips....couldn't throw to 1b.

But later in the season they were gone and i assume won't return?

2019 he was a 20 yr old rookie.

I just believe he would be somewhere between his great 2020 and his not so great 2021 (w/o the yips).

He doesn't have a "fielding" issue I guess is the point.

Its an aggressiveness issue...trying to make throws he shouldn't etc...

Believe this too would improve as he stops trying to do "too much".

As defending World Series champions in 2023 wanting to repeat, why would they want to put Tatis at SS hoping he would develop into a quality defender while dropping Kim who they see as an elite defensive SS and a key that got them the 2022 title.

Yes they want Tatis in the line-up offensively … and there are spots that would benefit from his skills defensively … so both Kim and Tatis in the line-up makes a better team.

Team first … not Tatis’ development / future.

So two things.

One, every other season has not been good. Why would this be OK, for occasional great plays that few can make.

Two, the most important, he is not coming back from an injury suffered while playing, he is coming back from a selfish, stupid injury. And then piled on a PED suspension to boot. He has lost his teammates at this time, and IMO he has lost all ability to demand/ask to play where he thinks he is best.

At this moment, Kim is best for the TEAM at SS. Tatis can earn this back, but its going to take a while. And Tatis needs to smarten up, and keep clean, and mash in 2023 while playing the best OF defense that he can. Then IF he works hard again in the 2023 offseason with no stupid s*@t, he can come into camp, and compete for SS, and earn it back.
