That article mentions him being better than Drury and Bell......I beg to differ. Drury led the team in RBI from the day he got here until he took one on the nut.

Soto is a HORRIBLE 2 hole hitter. Bat him 4th- make him swing BIG every time he goes up.

I agree with 3finger......dude needs to produce, analytics be damned!

We’ve scored 5 runs in the last 4 games.

LOL....I was calling for that a month ago at least

081 .292 .081 .373 Soto in September ..thats .373 OPS

August was .905

He needs a PED suspension to be 💯 honest.. is he even healthy? Is his back issue causing this.. and why not hit him #9 if indeed he is struggling this badly.. he needs to right this ship and can't hit #2

Siedler brought the damn Camel to Petco and this happened...

Soto seems like he needs a good hitting coach to get his swing back in order. Maybe the Padres can hire the guy away from Rancho Bernardo High School. Can't be worse.

While lately he hasn’t even been walking much his propensity to do so warrants his spot at the top of the lineup still.

But I would hit him 3rd and Machado 4th if it were me.
Maybe a runner or two on would entice him to swing for the fence more?

Heard a replay of yesterday’ post game comments from Melvin. Interesting that maybe for the first time this season Melvin was PUBLICLY  upset (can’t tell what he has been behind closed doors or one on one with players before).

His post game with the players when longer than in the past and delayed to post-game with the media.

He not only disliked the players performance but added that they were given sufficient information on this pitcher (what pitches he has and how he sequences them) to form an AB plan … and apparently that input was not used by the players.

If the players are marching to their own drum … coaching, managing, analytical support even if changed will not get improvement. Probably not all the players … but maybe we should be focusing on the players that are “un-coachable” and unproductive.

Will be interesting to see if Melvin makes some line-up changes to emphasis his displeasure with some of the players.

Have to try something …. So that works for me.

Not sure his swing is the issue (no one has said it is different than when he was hitting). From what I can tell his swing / don’t swing approach seems to be dysfunctional … and he is more interested in walking than hitting … pitchers are seeing that and throwing more strikes and getting him in the hole where he is subject to taking defensive ABs.

I am voting his problem is between his ears. He started his Padre run OK and has been sinking as time goes on. Been on record that he should not be in the #2 slot where he may think he should be walking ahead of Machado and therefore not attacking and hitting. Maybe sitting him in a spot where walking is not the objective but hitting is (and the walks will come as they fear his hitting again).

What we know is that they are doing is not helping the team get to the playoffs … so have to try to get change in the last 18 games … hard to be worse than now.
