I’d prefer they take away the box for now.

Most of the missed calls are close enough to be called either way….but the constant “should have been a ball”/“shouldn’t have been a strike” commentary is getting old.

Without the box there would be no complaint about 80% of the missed calls.

The box on TV is the biggest problem IMO, with watching the game and judging the zone. I can tell you that the box on TV is no way connected to Questec system used by MLB to grade the strike zone by the home plate ump, as I know the guy that operated the system here at Chase Field. He was my umpire assigner here in the Valley before he passed. And he said that no TV broadcast had access to that system.

So the box on TV is just a guess by a tech in the TV broadcast trailer.

And as rough as last nights plate guy was, he did not cost SD the game. They had multiple runners on base with ample opportunity to score, the players just did not perform last night. I understand Drury's frustration on his strike 3 call, it was rough, but Im sure that if you asked Drury, it was more frustration on his own part in missing some pitches earlier in the AB that he should have done something with one of those pitches.

Really no idea on the cause or how to fix this but:

At PETCO: Padre pitchers 3.36 ERA (8th in MLB) but hitters’ runs scored per game at 3.60 (22nd in MLB)

AWAY: Padre pitchers 4.11 ERA (18th in MLB) but hitters’ runs scored per game at 4.84 (3rd in MLB)

As much as we complain about the offense … on the road (63 games) they are one of the best offenses in MLB. Then as much as we praise the pitching they are only 18th in MLB in ERA on the road.

What is clear it is PETCO is a major factor … 0.75 lower ERA and 1.24 runs per game lower. Doing more comparative damage to the offense than to the pitching.

So what your saying Fenn is that our GM has not brought in the right guys who could prosper at Petco?

Our field plays well to certain hitters, not all( obviously!). Maybe our GM should be more concerned about that than the players All Star status?

There is no stadium that Soto/Machado/Tatis are not the right players.

Grisham and Cronenworth had no problems hitting at Petco in 2020.

Bell wasn’t hitting on the road with us either…and has done better since returning to Petco.

I don’t think it’s the “type” of player….they are all just slumping at the same time right now.

Im going to call it again, is this NOT what Melvin was brought in for???? To avoid slumps like this. What the hell is he doing, sitting in the dugout counting his $3M per season?

DFA Wil.. send Batten to AAA ..Alfaro to IL... Bring up KOWHLEY.. CAMPUSANO and BEATY.... start Azocar CF until his OPS is <Grishman.. it won't happen cause Azocar is a better hitter..cant be any worse and maybe spark the offense

Wil /Grish and Alfaro are 0-8 with 12 of the 16 LOBs .. cant start all 3 of these dudes in the same game..

The TV box is fine,  it's accurate to a greater degree than to which umpires are judged. The problem is umpires suck. They're completely unfit for the job requirements. Which require an ability to track fast moving objects in a 3 dimensional space while squatting for hours on end over a lengthy schedule. You're not going to get the best at that by having costly ump schools and good ole boys clubs that protect flagrantly terrible umpires.

4th time shut out in the past 3 weeks.....

This is the time of year that things come together, team firing on all cylinders, making the push for post season.

Padres? Things are falling apart at the seems( at least on offense). I just can't see how this group pulls together and makes the playoffs. Too dysfunctional to recover.

We Hit Rock Bottom yesterday... Nothing but UP from here

It starts Friday @KC and we need to flip the switch to BATS ON FIRE 🔥!

By the way rosters expand to 28 +2 players 1P and 1 regular 9/1 .. who would u like to see up to help the club..?

On the P side Pomz/Johnson are the obvious adds... however Groome might be interesting

On the hitting side I would add Beaty and Campusano and option Batten down... Campy can C (Alfaros starts) and DH if need be.. Beaty can get some starts in LF/DH/1B a bit to get an extra LHB in a lineup here and there..
