Hard to see what the Padres see in the bottom of the 40 man but this mix should include

1. Scott ... so-so in his performance after being added mid-season and basically an "older" non-prospect
2. Kerr ... has not shown well and not been a focal point of call-ups ... getting into his late 20 with LHRP in abundance in the ML and probably ahead of him in AAA ... could be vunerable
3. Contreras ... still a good prospect but so-so in his recovery in A ball from TJ ... could gamble he clears waivers and is retained.
4. Sullivan ... sort of depends on how they see the future with Nola, Alfaro, Campusano, and Gallager (he is out of minor league options for 2023) and really lacking a near term back-up for AAA in the system. He probably goes as a guy in his late 20s, not great defensively, and probably easily replaceable if claimed on waivers in 2023. He does have minor league options so that is his "hook" to remain as a 2023 AAA call-up option.

Actually I may go Kerr then Sullivan ... hold as long as I can on the prospect upside of Contreras and although did not show well ...  Scott does have good stuff that could play at the ML level in 2023 (plus think he too has minor league options)

two open 40 man slots ... one goes for Beaty as he come off the 60 day this week (I think) and the second is ticketed for Pomeranz who should be recalled before the end of the month.

Then for Johnson (if he makes it through rehab) ... Scott appears the low hanging fruit for a DFA.

Azocar adds CF/LF/RF PR speed... vs Mazara LF/RF no speed.. and Azocar part of 2023, killing the ball in AAA and at least a valuable bench piece for the franchise.. same with Beaty.. this is kind of their audition for 2023..a hot streak could earn them at least a position to lose.. solid play a spot on the 2023 bench

Agree, could see both as low cost bench options in 2023 ... and maybe more for Beaty who at one point was a decent (average) hitter.

Soto walks to get on base(along with Manny and Crone) and AJ’s acquisitions brought in for the sole purpose of driving them in,Drury and Bell,both don’t.

AJ did his job….we needed offense and he brought in the sports premiere on base hitter and two of the leagues best RBI guys.They just have don’t nothing….they aren’t doing their jobs.

As it stands coming in ahead of PHIL puts the Padres up against ATL … one of the hottest and best teams going at this point. Come in in the last WC slot and face STL in round one. Who is a better 1st round opponent … ATL or STL in their home parks?

If we play St Louis the road to the NLCS goes through NYM most likely.. if we play ATL it goes through LAD .. with the way Snell/Yu and Musgrove "keep us in games".. Degroom and Max (with our patient approach) can be chased early 5+ or 6IP... we proven (4-3) we can beat the Mets (even before Bell and Soto)... Having to play LAD 1st even if we WIN could lead to an emotional let down vs Mets later.. so yeah I prefer the 6th seed.. + there is a good chance LAD don't make it to the NLCS..
